Coach Capel gives a VCU shoutout after their win. Man, that Dom Jones, BA Walker team was something else. They were some kind of good.
Dom Jones is still my all-time favorite. I think he would have gotten NBA looks if VCU was more known at the time.
I was at the game he referenced, playing Chris Paul and Wake Forest in Raleigh, NC. It was 8 on 5 with the refs and we lost by 1 (it was 4 before a meaningless 3 at the end) in what was essentially a home game. I loved that team, the guys you mentioned plus Nick George, a freshman JPR, and our 6’6” senior center, Troy Godwin.

JPR is a friend of mine. I used to do a volunteer reading program at Hillside Court way back in the day. Jesse was a kid in the group. I also shot sports so I saw him play football and basketball. Jesse is a great guy. He and Rob B work with kids these days. Great team. Oh and you spoke of Dom. Also, waaaaay back my brother lived on the southside when I was in my late 20s or early 30s...I don't remember my age. Ha! But I used to visit and on his culesac there was a hoop. I used to play one on one and HORSE with a kid. Later on that kid was a high school star and he came to VCU where he was all-CAA 1st team. Yep, it was Dom Jones.

Watching Nick Honor at point for Mizzou and Taylor Funk shooting 3s for Utah State is weird.
Fun Honor story, he was on a visit before committing to Fordham and we were playing at home on a Saturday. For some reason I thought game was at 1 and it was at 3. Went into RHG at 1230 and I meet Honor with assistant Rodney Crawford who I knew well. Three of us end up having lunch. He commits shortly thereafter all because of my recruiting. His leaving had nothing to do with my yelling.
