The Fall Of Starbury

507 Views 14 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Gotham2krazy
But in January 2004, as the F train pulled into its final stop at Avenue X, a group of high school boys wearing Knicks jerseys and hats celebrated, cheering and laughing like they had just won the lottery. "Starbury is back in New York!" one of the kids chanted. "We're going to the NBA Finals!"

"It hasn't worked out the way everyone thought it would," says Mark Jackson, the former Knicks point guard who has known Marbury for years. "Stephon Marbury came in with a lot of baggage and hasn't found success in New York. But this is a collective effort. There is plenty of blame to go around." Several team sources say the only way Marbury can survive is if Larry Brown leaves first, and considering Brown's nomadic history, that's possible. But Brown has repeatedly vowed to return, and the $40 million he's scheduled to make over the next four years gives him a mighty good reason to keep his word.

"He's not a happy person," says Rob Johnson, the Queens basketball consultant who has known Marbury since he was a kid. "Steph treats everyone with a cold shoulder. I know he takes care of a lot of people and he does a lot of good with his summer tournament. But he's very moody and he's hard to get along with."

I smell a trade. XD
If a trade happens, I'd laugh my *** off if the Knicks won 50 games next year, because it'd be the 4th time that a team dramatically improves after trading Marbury.

And I hope that he gets traded to T-Wolves, so he can play with KG again...
I don't care who he gets traded to. They're gauranteed to suck. Actually, I hope it's the Lakers.

Haha, how about Stephon for Lamar?
I'm sure most of us (not all of us) will agree that Brown is full of himself... but then again he's always been able to (if teams play his way eventually) improve a franchise.

I think if Marbury would just shut up and do whatever Brown says without proving a point each game such as deciding not to score at all, as he did earlier, or giving a half baked effort, then all the blame would be on brown instead if the Knicks don't win.

The players should just play their hearts out every game for the fans, and let the Coaches worry about the win/loss record.

No I'm going to disagree. I don't want any part of Lamar Odom, we don't need him to play close to home. Too many distractions, he is better off on the West coast away from family and friends. Didn't we have enough of bring back local kids to play for the Knicks? There is one exception, if we can get our hands on Artest I'll roll the dice and take the risk. We need defensive minded players....period!

I wouldn't take a gamble on Artest either, he's disloyal and throw tantrums all over the place, plus he's a dirty player.

Keyword Goth, that's the type of player this team needs.

Haha, I mean I guess I wouldn't mind that, but he's another distraction as well. He openly admitted wanted to be traded this year and caused that fight last year. He's got a lot of baggage and what he does causes such turmoil in the locker room, it'll be no better than having Stephon Marbury around.
