If you were going to make a team as near perfection as possible (or, rather, most winning/dominant) who would be on that team? All teams need role players (but you can use high caliber role players ie. Worthy), or use stellar players in a complimentary role (ie. bringing Bill Russell or Pip off the bench to shut down opposing best players). It is about the right mix, not the 12 best guys. Balance (don't need 10 scorers, or 8 perimeter players) is the key! Anyways, I want to see who can come up with the best team! (You can use any players, whether current, or from the 50's, 60's, etc., and you can use active players who aren't in the NBA ie. James if you're stupid enough)

I can't rate players I never saw, so this is from the mid 80's on up

Starters

PG - Jason Kidd (Would never have to shoot)
SG - Michael Jordan (Duh)
C - Shaquille O' Neal (The most unstoppable defensive force in the league on this team)
SF - Larry Bird (Best all around forward of all time, would shoulder the bulk of the scoring load after MJ)
PF - Kevin McHale (Long arms, rebounding, defense and the occasional unstoppable post move)

Reserves
Magic Johnson (could play all five positions, perfect off the bench for this squad), Reggie Miller (would spell MJ off the bench) John Stockton (would never have to shoot, and could average 20 assists per game) Robert Horry (Play defense and hit a couple of threes when we need you to), Dennis Rodman (Rebound like a mad man), Kevin Garnett (Our most versatile defender), Hakeem (A backup center!), and Chris Mullin (Deadly shooter and a 'point forward'--he would be the alternate on the "IR),

Coach - Pat Riley

Left off Malone, Barkley, Ewing, etc. because they just didn't fit. I would take this team into battle against any other 13 in history.

Nice team...

That is pretty close to what I would've had, but I'd probably have Bill Russell and Pippen on there somewhere for defensive purposes. Nice, though. I liked the Rodman and Mullin selection especially, I probably never would've thought of them.

forgot my coach...

chuck daly as head coach - he coached the original dream team
lenny wilkens as assistant - he was daly's assistant then too
larry brown as assistant - he could easily be the head coach, but he's humble enough to just be there and share his vast knowledge of the game, and respected enough by all of the basketball world to be listened to.

all time (consider it pure speculation)

PG Stockton
SG jordon
SF Pippen (Bird)
PF Bird (Duncan)
C Chambelrain

now

PG Nash
SG Bryant
SF Stojakovic
PF Nowitzki
C O'Neal

5 great passers (maybe Dirk not that much), O'Neal in the post, Kobe and Nash driving and dishing, Peja and Dirk shooting and eventually feeding Shaq.

I can do this:

PG Bob Cousy - simply because he knew precisely how to get people the ball instead of just where to get it to them
SG Michael Jordan - defensive purposes (hee)
SF Larry Legend - he passed like a PG, shot like a SG, and rebounded like a PF
PF Hakeem Olajuwon - whenever anyone else is having trouble, feed him in the post and get out of the way
C Bill Russell - don't come into his lane... don't make me warn you again
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Magic Johnson - 6th man because he plays all 5 positions
Elgin Baylor - defended swing men with tenacity and flat out scored the rock
Charles Barkley - this team needs some attitude
Oscar Robertson - as versatile as they come
George Gervin - points, points, points
Isaiah Thomas - just in case this team manages to get down 10 with 3 minutes to play
Shaquille O'Neal - spot duty, I guess

start with the best:

wilt
russell
bird
jordan
magic

add the guys who you could argue deserve to be in the top 5 -
oscar
kareem
shaq

fill out the squad with your specialists:
pippen - defense and 3's
king - instant offense - unstoppable
payton - defend and hit the 3
dumars - could play the point, d-up both guard spots, hit the 3

no weaknesses. rebounding, strength, post game, interior d, perimeter d, passing, 3 point shooting. you've got the freaks (wilt & shaq) so you don't have to worry about matching up with them. all the bases covered.

KFLO, your perfect team reads like it should be the "Dream Team" of "dream Teams"! Great choices and you do have everything covered on offense and defense and most importantly, the unselfishness to want to win every game they'd play.

PG - Steve Kerr
SG - Jerry West
SF - Reggie Miller
PF - Larry Bird
C - Shaq

Reserves - Bill Sharman, Rick Barry, Alex English, Tim Legler

My team would only be allowed to shoot 3's. Shaq is in there for the three or four shots we'd miss.
