So so sad.....
This is not the Big East and you'll have to wait a half dozen years.

The league was formed with mostly public institutions. St. Louis is a fine addition (granted they were kicked out of CUSA for not having football.) You are a very large and greatly respected university. Heck my heart specialist graduated from St. Louis. Ford is a good coach and St. Louis and Dayton should be the top 2 in the league. But no way is there such a huge gap between where Dayton and where the rest of the A10 is ranked. We'll find out as the season progresses.

Even thou we'll probably leave due to football. It is worrisome that the top two A10 teams could again be poached by the Big East.

1. The last time the Bonnies finished outside the top 144 was 2009-2010 (RPI 156). Nearly a decade. http://realtimerpi.com/2009-2010/rpi_118_Men.html

2. The overall talent level on the 2018-19 Bonnies roster probably exceeds most of those years.

3. There's probably more collective in depth knowledge on this board about the state of the league/programs than one can find on all the pundit sites/blogs combined (particularly the ESPNs, etc.). https://www.basketballforum.com/atlantic-10-conference/682331-top-4-2018-19-a.html

5. When will these pundits begin to believe in Schmidt and the program (reloading, not rebuilding)? They should give him the benefit of the doubt. He's earned it.
1. Your point is valid, but the RPI is an objective measure of performance: "Wins vs SOS" and preseason 1-353 rankings are about talent level and prediction. No one actually thinks the RPI is an index of "Who's better." (I cede this point in March in my BCS arguments simply because it's easier).

The 100th "best team" in college basketball (if that could actually be identified) is going to have a different performance each year based on who they are and what conference they are in. Like.
100 Norfolk State is going 3-9 OOC, 16-2 MEAC, 3-0 conf tourney, 22-11, 130 RPI
100 Illinois State is going 9-3 OOC, 13-5 MVC, 2-1 conf tourney, 24-8, 75 RPI.
100 Georgetown is going 11-1 OOC, 3-15 Big East, 0-1 conf tourney, 14-17, 150 RPI.

You get the idea.

2. One would totally hope. But also one would hope that everyone in the A-10 has increased their talent levels as well. It's a different landscape within the conference than it was 10 years ago.

3. One would hope.

5. Schmidt's probably earned the benefit of the doubt. But it's part of our identity and I love it. I said last year "I am not comfortable being the preseason 2nd team." I'm more comfortable when we're picked 9th, because I know we'll finish 6th or 7th.

If you are struggling, just pretend the first 2 sentences never existed.
Think Saint Joes will be a very good team and there should not be such a large gap between Dayton and St Louis and the rest of the league.

FWIW. College Sports Madness has started the rollout of their top 144 men's bb teams for the upcoming season.I' ll update it once a week or sooner if an A-10 team is mentioned. They add a team daily. If any teams on the list are on your schedule, you can go to the link posted by Paulxu on page 1 of the thread to view the team's preview.

Dayton and St Louis should be closer to each other and certainly do not feel the wheels have fallen off of VCU from them to be rated so low. Same for St. Bonaventure. Think those two plus the Dukes can be top 100. The league is fine and we just need to take care of business.
Ah, I gotcha. It is Joel Welser so it makes no sense.

Perhaps ole' Joel will predict some separation in the A-10 this coming year, but otherwise he is down on the conference overall as he ranks Saint Louis as the 6th best in the A-10 at #143 . The last 5 years, starting with last year, he has had 8,9,8,8, and 11 A-10 teams in his top 144.

I have 7 in the top 144. My list would include Richmond which I bet he does not have. I dont think there are any other candidates. VCU, Dav, Day, Bona, URI, SLU, Rich...? Maybe Duq but they have no continuity and are so unpredictable. Mason? Maybe?

With St Louis being 6th in Joel's view that will most likely leave Richmond, Duquesne and Mason out of his poll. GW is going to win some games this year. In my opinion the A10 should have 9 or 10 in the top 144. The conference will probably have more teams in the top 50 of his poll than outside of it. Who knows with him though.

I do think the A10 will be more top heavy this season. Can make a case for 4 bids but I think 3 is realistic. The other 5 I think are all top 100 and like you said, closer to top 50

Is that actually VCU, (Dav/Day), (Bona/URI), (SLU/Rich)?

Its fun to go back to 2018 and see some of the notable misses in both directions:

15 West Virginia
17 UCLA
22 Syracuse
24 Clemson
25 Indiana
35 Butler
36 Miami
38 USC
39 Nebraska
41 Oklahoma St
46 Wichita St
53 St Louis
57 Davidson
61 George Mason
70 Gtown
74 Buffalo
78 Rhody
88 UMass
89 Belmont
90 Wofford
105 Duquesne
128 VCU
NR Bona
Why is Georgetown listed? NET had them at 84, but they were a 3 seed in the NIT, which would put them in the mid 50s. 70 is right in the middle of that.
