Trade Idea

I don't usually engage in this type of thing but I was looking at which teams the Raptors might be interested in trading up for our pick and i came to Golden State. So far Mickael Pietrus hasn't lived up to expectations and with Monta Ellis playing great basketball for them, he could be available. Do you think both teams would consider #5 for Pietrus and #9 (assuming things stay the same and the lottery pans out as expected)? I think Pietrus would fill a need for the Raptors and the guy does still have a boat load of potential. With the ninth pick we would take the best point guard or big man (centre) prospect available. This would leave us with just one major hole to fill.

The players that seem to be in our range don't fit a need at all and at five I'm not sure that there is a star talent available, but there will be very good role guys there at 9. Maybe the difference in talent level from 5 to 9 wouldn't be enough for Golden State to make this trade..just something to consider.

I think if we trade the pick it will be to fill a specific need. Pietrus is an interesting prospect, as most French players seem to be these days, but we could just as easily draft someone like Roy or Carney if were looking for a wing prospect.

I think it's more likely we use the pick (if we're going to trade it) in a package for a player like Magloire or in a sign and trade type deal.
I don't think there is enough value differential between 5 and 9 for Pietrus to make it fair. That trade is favours the Raps too much IMO.

And speedy is right, I see a legit big like mags or PG the target for a move with the pick.

I wonder if BC would give Sam Cassell a nice 2 year contract ahead of Jose, and target Mags with the pick?
If GSW was down for Pietrus and the 9th for the 5th I would be all over this. Most likely, they'll want a bit more. But anyways, Pietrus gives us a solid guy off the bench and arguably better than any swingman in this draft. All the positions we need to fill are more available later in the draft (PG, C - read Rajon Rondo, Randy Foye, Shelden Williams, Tiago Splitter). Only problem is with Pietrus, Joey Graham doesn't really have a spot.

With a good point guard, Pietrus and Graham would be killers on the wing.
Speaking of Monta Ellis, is he a free agent after this season?
if pietrus is the best we can do to trade for our pick, than i wouldnt trade it.

think about it, tyson chandler (2nd or 3rd pick i dont remember) got traded for ELTON BRAND. imagine the bulls with brand still on their team. damn. lol
