Two at the top

At this point IMO there are only 2 candidates for the #1 pick...Rudy Gay and Tyrus Thomas. Morrison I have questions about, and Aldridge has the size/skills but is a Texas-sized *****. They're out.

Gay has every tool you could ask for. Skilled, long, athletic. Everything except that killer attitude.

Thomas is much more raw. However, he's shown a more polished game in the tournament (better offensive moves...he faced up and took his defenders to the rim a few times vs. Texas) and his athleticism is off the charts. We all know about his defensive presence, and he plays with fire...effort/intensity is never a question.

Who would you take?

Personally I'd go with Thomas. He's already an elite-level athlete in the NBA and he's shown good touch on his mid-range jumpshot, a desire to affect the game on the defensive end, relentlessness on the offensive glass, and a killer instinct.

personally i'd take tyrus with the #1 pick, there is no sure fire nba star in this draft but he looks like he could be something special.

i do think aldridge needs to be considered the top pick aswell, it will all come down to who lands the #1 and obviously what the needs of the team are
Gay's main flaw is one he wil never correct;his killer attitude. I just don't see him being more then a DMiles type player with his lack of a killer instinct.
Said this many times..and one reason why I started the club in my signature besides being sick of the talk.

I may be wrong but I think Gay would be more suited for NBA than he would be for college game. He'll be able to do a lot more than he does in NBA with athleticism or taking players off the dribble and also in the open court. Which will allow him to take over games IMO. He's also a pretty good shooter, and has time to develop into an even better shooter. Just the zone in college hinders what he can do best and as comparison to Thomas who is not as nearly there offensively. Thomas stays around the rim a lot and gets put back. Sure he showed more ability offensively and he is firey. I think people dwell on this passion stuff too much, just because they don't show it. Gay's had a firey attitude and been passionate before. Everyone has their critics anyway. I guess, this is what people will say about him. And I think him being so passive is partially a subconscious thing with who his teammates are. Defensively, Gay doesn't block as many shots, but he showed he is a good defender. If his offense has been lacking his defense has been there.

As for the top pick. I would take Aldridge depending on the team and cuz of size. But other than him I would take Rudy.

You have no idea if he will or won't "fix" that. Charlie V was on uconn last year and everyone always hated on him for playing unmotivated and underachieving, and he just dropped 48 last night.
I'd pick Barganini over either of them

If he is so passive because of who his teamates are then he isnt worth being taken as the #1 pick in the draft. Being drafted as a #1 pick you are expected through potential to eventually become the leader of a team and not someone who is just passive because of his teamates. The #1 pick should be the one setting the mood and putting fire to feul the team to a win not a passive guy who follows his teamates.

Game, Set, Match. Excellent point, bottom line is that none of us have any freakin clue who will or wont succeed. You could count the number of CV supporters on one hand last nba draft. Now he looks like a star in the making. How some of you speak with such authority about players is freakin hilarious.

morrison is probably more of a sure thing than the two you mentioned but i think with the top pick you want someone that can change the outcome of a game with his all around play. i think aldridge still has a lot of upside so i would not give up on him being the top pick.
the whole conversation may be a moot point because the best player may be the kid from italy(bargnani), i have not had the luxury of seeing him play but i trust the folks at draftxpress and nbadraft.net and they are pretty high on him. if he is the next coming of dirk nowitzki then its a no brainer, you would have to somehow plug him into ncaa level play and see what he would have done there. something tells me he may have done pretty well.

I also said it could be a subsconscious thing not because he thinks "oh, I have this great team around me, I won't step up or be a leader because of it."

How many #1's over the last few yrs or even in history have done that? Set a mood and fuel the team right away that didn't have good or great teams already? Not many.
Bargnani is still on the board and could go #1...

Anyway i'd pick Thomas over Gay.
Aldridge says he is staying with Texas.
And Thomas has said he's staying because, "I'm not ready for the NBA yet."
what about joakim noah i wasn't really sold on him in the beginning of the season but after his dominating performances in the tourney i'm now sold on this guy. The only weakness he's got is his strenght and freethrow which can be fix in a short amount of time.on top of all that he has the most upside in my opinion a 7 footer with his athletsim is unreal i see him as a 18pts 12reb 3blk a game type of player while i really think that tryus thomas will be no better than stormile and i like rudy but he doesn't have a killer instinct he has all the talent in the world but he doesn't use it when needed

Ohhhh they went to LSU so they have the same destiny. What happened to Pete Maravich, Bob Pettit, and Shaq?

Tyrus reminds people of Stro because they went to the same school. He reminds me of Stro but thats only because I saw Stro at LSU a bunch. If Stro didn't go to LSU people wouldn't compare them as often.
