Rookie point guard Jay Williams has been selected as an alternate, meaning he could be added to the 12-man roster if another player withdraws. Nets point guard Jason Kidd reportedly is contemplating withdrawing because of physical and mental fatigue from New Jersey's run to the NBA Finals.
Bucks shooting guard Ray Allen also might withdraw because of a nagging injury to his left knee. He has not yet been cleared to play this summer, and Team USA's training camp opens Aug. 16. That could open the door for Jalen Rose to get the nod.
"I think Jalen would be considered for that spot,'' said Craig Miller, who is the assistant executive director for media/public relations for USA Basketball. "I've never heard Jalen not be mentioned or someone speak against him in meetings as the team was being chosen.
"I think part of what might help him is he's not with Indiana anymore because there are already two Indiana guys [Reggie Miller and Jermaine O'Neal].''
