Ultimate Fighting Championship's lightweight title will be defended on network television.

USA TODAY Sports and MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) confirmed with UFC officials that current lightweight champion Benson Henderson (17-2 MMA, 5-0 UFC) will face Nate Diaz (16-7, 11-5) at UFC on FOX 5, which takes place Dec. 8 at a host site to be announced.

A light-heavyweight matchup between former champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua (21-6, 5-4) and Alexander Gustafsson (14-1, 6-1) serves as the night's co-feature, and a B.J. Penn (16-8-2, 12-7-2) vs. Rory MacDonald (13-1, 4-1) fight also has been rebooked for the card.

Can't wait, this fight should be full of fireworks, both guys will bring it. I like Henderson, but Nate Diaz is tough as nails.

MAIN (FOX, 8 p.m. ET)
Benson Henderson vs. Nate Diaz - for lightweight title
Alexander Gustafsson vs. Mauricio "Shogun" Rua
Rory MacDonald vs. B.J. Penn
Matt Brown vs. Mike Swick

PRELIMINARY (FX, 5 p.m. ET)
Lavar Johnson vs. Brendan Schaub
Mike Chiesa vs. Marcus LeVesseur
Raphael Assuncao vs. Mike Easton
Ramsey Nijem vs. Joe Proctor
Yves Edwards vs. Jeremy Stephens

PRELIMINARY (Facebook, 3:30 p.m. ET)
Nam Phan vs. Dennis Siver
Daron Cruickshank vs. Henry Martinez
John Albert vs. Scott Jorgensen
Tim Means vs. Abel Trujillo

Now this is a card!! I think it's safe to say this trumps most, if not all, of their PPV cards in recent memory. The facebook prelims are good, and I'm even excited for those FX prelims (Proctor being a New England boy, Chiesa is a good guy, I like Schaub, etc.) Then there's the main card. This is going to be awesome!

WOW...That is a better card that 80% of UFC PPV cards over the last 3 years

Amazing. I really impressed that UFC decided to do this card on TV and not PPV

Lavar Johnson had to pull out of his fight due to injury. Doesn't look like they are going to find a replacement for Schaub.

Great showing from Rory tonight, he certainly is the next big thing. A rematch with Condit would be very fun to watch.

Also, if/when Jones beats Chael, it'll be very interesting to see him fight Gus. Two very unique styles.

MacDonald-Penn was just brutal to watch. I thought Penn had a chance up until half-way through the first round. Not only did Rory pick apart a legend, he refused to end the fight and taunted what was essentially a lifeless punching bag in round 3.

Henderson-Diaz was equally brutal. I can't believe Diaz was so handily outstruck and that he didn't go for any submissions aside from leg locks. Henderson had an enormous strength advantage and kept Diaz against the cage in rounds 3-5, but he chopped down Diaz's lead leg like everyone expected, even punching his thigh while standing with him. That's ridiculous.

Gustafsson-Shogun was pretty good, but Rua looked dead in the water in the last round, much like Penn/Diaz. I like Gus, but I still don't think he has a chance against Jones.

Anyone catch Albert-Jorgensen? That was the only prelim fight I caught, but out of the 5 I saw, that was easily fight of the night.

I have been anti-Benson since he beat Frankie (I'm a die hard Frankie fan all the way and thought he won both times) but I can't think of a 155er better than Smooth Henderson at the moment. Very, very impressed by his showing.

Yves Edwards was awarded the KO of the night (65K) and Jorgensen/Albert got Fight of The Night.

Jorgensen also won submission of the night, a cool 130K in bonus money. Not bad for 4:59 of work.

I kept getting scared when Henderson would go work ground game with Diaz since he was dominating the standup and Nick is dangerous on the ground, but it all worked out.

I hate Nick Diaz so I was happy to see him destroyed. Henderson is just scary out there with how good he is.

Do you hate Nate, too? Because Nick hasn't fought in a while.

Henderson looked incredible, much better than he did both times against Edgar.

Once he began doing the jab to the leg, you knew it was over. That's the ultimate "I'm kicking your ass and you won't do anything about it," move. I think Anderson did the same thing to Maia.

As far as the Diaz brothers, I don't like them, but they are super talented. I prefer Nate over Nick. Nate is cocky and smug but shows respect for (most) of his opponents after the fight while Nick bitches and cries if he doesn't get his way.

A rematch with Pettis or a third fight with Cerrone makes sense for Benson now.

Luckily, Showtime and Cowboy are fighting each other soon so it will make things easier.
