Ooof. Second suspension this year for him, and now an arrest. Does he sit for a while, or get a slap on the wrist?

This has not been a great year for news off the floor in the A10, despite adding two great programs. Who is next?

From what I hear of the UMPD, this can mean just about anything. Cady is a big guy, so if he truly assaulted anybody I think the Judge hearing this is going to be able to quickly sort it out. If it's true, then probably time to cut this guy loose. This team doesn't look like anything more than a possible NIT contender anyway.

I had planned on going tonight, but picked up some airplane bug. Plus I unexpectedly got to see 2 of those PR games, which were hardly incentive to buck up. I do not like anything about this team right now. Sounds like some of our fans are coming up short in the class department too. Since they're bound to outnumber NU, I think that's just one more reason to pass.

So even before this unfortunate news, have UMass fans and A10 fans both lowered their expectations for the Minutemen? I thought they would be ripping through the OOC to set their resume for March Madness. It doesn't seem to be so, and now this.

Kellogg? Is he the right guy? Will he be like Baron where he gets good athletes to play a somewhat disorganized system and win a good number of games only to lose when it really counts?

The teams they've lost to so far are better teams. It's not the losses that are bothersome, it's the brain dead way they play the game. This is all on Kellogg. I'm sure he'll get it tightened up, a little. But I think his ceiling isn't very high and he already bumped his head on it last year.

He gave the keys to Chaz Williams, a smart move, because otherwise Kellogg would be looking for work. But Williams needs some direction, he's not the brightest floor general either.

So if you have already identified Kellogg's ceiling, then isn't it unfortunate that he was just granted a 3yr extension? I doubt UMass fans are happy with NITs, if that is his ceiling.

I don't know that my opinion is the consensus. But furthermore you're talking to a guy who lived through the Ray Wilson years. I don't need another Calipari, I'd love stability, and entertaining, smart basketball, win or lose. I'm happy to give Kellogg another 3 years. At the moment though, this team is unwatchable.

According to the Sprinfield MA beat writer, all charges are misdemeanors. So I think Cady will be back after a 3-5 game suspension. I favor 5, but it seems I'm always more punitive than the coaches. Maybe because my job isn't on the line.

You also don't have as close a relationship as the coaches do (I'm guessing), which can cloud judgment. Seems like suspensions like this should be handled by the AD, not the coach, or else possibly the university given that it reflects back on the institution's image (though it's pretty minor in most cases).

Hope it works out for the young'un. If he went to X this would be a 50 pg thread by now due to you know who.

There seems to be a lack of organization and a lot of immaturity on the floor right now. Call it a quick trigger finger if you like, but they are struggling to hit air right now, and I don't see or hear the coach trying to slow them down for better shots - not even one time. That shooting display against Miami was vomit inducing.

According to one of our colleagues on umasshoops.com, he reviewed the DVR of the Miami game, and discovered to his surprise that most of the shots were good looks. Just didn't go down.

But remember if he were playing for a private college he'd be gone if found guilty. Public colleges allow bad behavior and rarely do players get released unless it is a serious crime.

There are two time I don't want to hear this, at a Umass game or while I'm on a date!

Anyways, when you are ice cold, should't you (the coach) be looking at creating some shots closer to the basket with a little higher pecentage of going in? You are right, the Miami game was a showcase of decent looks not going down, but you don't lead with your chin and extend even farther from the basket... That has been the case all year - 20 footers not going in? Well, lets see if we can make some 25-footers! Or how about sending the 5'8" guy in there to try and shoot around 6'9" guys....

Nice win last night, but it tells little about whether DK is figuring this out. Cady or no Cady, they need to rediscover some of that sound shot selection and patience that made them come together last year.

Lalanne's been suspended, pending the outcome. Sounds reasonable to me. Sure, they could have tried the LaSalle approach, and try to cover it up. But it might be better to save that in case they ever get a trio of LaSalle caliber scholars like Neal and the two tenors. This current case doesn't sound particularly serious as the details have started leaking out.

What, like take the ball to the hoop with Reggie Johnson standing there? Got a Plan C?

College judicial processes are entirely separate from state legal processes. Just like you can be fired from a job for doing something illegal without actually going through a court trial.

I'm not talking about layups, but how about some screens t ofree up some nice 10 or 15 footers instead of hoisting up 32 rainbows from 22 (or more) feet away - with Reggie Johnson standing there waiting to inhale the misses?
