Freshman Mason Docks had a rough freshman season; in limited time, Docks only made 14 of 54 shots, including 24.1% from 2 (1 of 9 at the basket). Not a lot of positive here.
In contrast, freshman Dion Brown lit the shot chart up red. Brown was highly effective in limited mid range and short corner opportunities, and shot 47% from the paint. However, there is room for improvement at the basket (60%) and from the 3-point wing (7/23). Brown will need to play a significant role next year for this team, meaning more volume.
A frustrating season for the senior Boonyasith. The guard was effective in the corners and in the upper midrange, and a decent finisher at the rim (66.7%).However, his poor shooting from the perimeter wing (26/90) was killer for the team’s offense.
While Beaudion didn’t have high volume, his short is beautiful. Aside from his struggles from the right wing, Beaudion was above average in all other zones. His low midrange attempts are a thing of beauty, likely influenced from his time with his former coach Dennis Gates. His finishing at the rim and in the paint helped him shoot 56.9% from 2, and helped the guard finish with a 56.2% eFG%.
Similar to backcourt mate Beaudion, Picarelli’s shot chart sees a lot of red. While he struggled in his few basket and paint attempts, his three point efficiency from all spots aside from the right corner made him a viable threat for the offensive attack. He also made the most of his midrange game, shooting 13 from 23. We’ll see if Picarelli can improve his finishing abilities next season, should he return.

Notable Player Stats
Tra’Von Fagan led all qualified America East players with 13.7 rebounds per 40 minutes.
Craig Beaudion was third amongst qualified AE players with 4.4 assists per game. Beaudion also tied for 5th with 37 total steals.
Matteo Picarelli was 9th in the conference in 3 point percentage, hitting 39.4% of his perimeter shots. Beaudion was the only other Retriever in the Top 20, finishing 19th with 36.4% of his 3’s falling.
Roster Turnover
Beaudion, Boonyasith, Doles, Fagan, and Lawrence are out of eligibility and will not return. Tre Edwards and Anyang Garang were celebrated on Senior Day, and with little playing time, are likely out as well. Thus, barring transfers, here is what we know about next year’s team:
Seniors
Yaw Obeng-Mensah
Matteo Picarelli
Juniors
Devan Sapp
Sophomores
Dion Brown
Mason Docks
Regimantas Ciunys
Freshman
Ace Valentine
Clifton Efinda
Marcel Gardner
Available Spots: 4
Ferry & co. will need several impact transfers to field a competitive roster next year, it seems. If Garang and Edwards don’t leave, the ability to improve the roster will be tough.
Ciunys is a big question mark, but seemed raw and outmatched. Docks has a lot of improving to do before being a D1 rotation player, and Devan Sapp played very sparingly in 2023-24. With only 3 proven D1-talent players on roster in Obeng-Mensah, Picarelli and Brown, it's hard to not be concerned about the team's outlook for 2023-24.
