Wanted to see what was up with the Spiders before I really ODed on VCU recruit porn.
The "latest Spider headline" on Verbal Commits is from 1,813 days ago.
The "recent activity" is about some guy committing to VCU 😡

So, I've decided Mooney has a secret plan.
All of the seniors who are playing an extra year are doing so from the free "covid" pass.
Next year they'll all come back as "grad" players when they waive the 4 years in 5 years rule.

We don't need no "stinkin'" recruits for 2022.
Although they did just name Gipe as the Director of Recruiting. So, maybe he'll start recruiting.

This has been a most disappointing start for our senior-laden team at 3-4.
Thought we would do much better and be able to contend for the Bonnies assumed crown.
After waiting for 3 months, I'll get to see the Spiders up close at Wofford on Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, y'all can EYOAs.

I wonder why you thought they would do much better. It is the same players except for Blake Francis which I knew would hurt them. They will certainly smash individual all-time records. Golden will pass Johnny Newman as the all-time scoring leader at UR. Gilyard will have a national steals record. The issue now with Mooney and the UR program will be what happens when all the 5th and 6th year players leave? It will be Burton carrying a heavy load in 2022.

Good points all. I'm assuming the billboard will go back up.
But you can't blame me for thinking that a few years playing together, getting stronger, gaining experience, might actually lead to some positive results.

My thought is where did the 2019-2020 defense go?
2019-2020 Francis & Sherod
2020-2021 Francis no Sherod
2021-2022 Sherod no Francis

But that can't be the reason that last season and this one have so much worse defense...

When conference play begins, the Spiders will have played 6 home games, and 7 games away (road and neutral).
I hope that toughens them up for the conference slate.

Looking back, it was a good year for the Spiders. With the returning seniors, they should have ended up in the NCAA...but as an at large pick.
Regardless, very proud of the way they won 4 in a row to get there, upsetting 5th seed Iowa, and was hoping for a S16.
Wheels sort of came off against Providence, but all in all, a good year.
Upcoming stuff:
1 - Grant Golden playing in some seniors game over the finals weekend in New Orleans:
2 - NCAA all-time career steals leader Jacob Gilyard will play in the Portsmith Invitational April 13-16
3 - Spider basketball celebration in the Robins on April 12th
