http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-dolphins/sfl-dolphins-chad-johnson-arrested-081112,0,751890.storyMiami Dolphins wide receiver Chad Johnson was arrested Saturday night for domestic violence, according to Davie Police Department captain Dale Engle.
The police report was not immediately made available, but according to a source the incident took place in a vehicle Saturday night.
Johnson, who started Saturday night's 20-7 exhibition loss to Tampa Bay, allegedly head-butted his new wife, Evelyn Lozada, during an argument.
When cops came on the scene Lozada, a star in VH1’s Basketball Wive’s Reality series, had lacerations on her forehead, and Johnson was arrested.
Since entering the NFL in 2001 Johnson, a Miami native who lives in Davie, had never been arrested. But he was arrested in college for a domestic dispute.
Johnson and Lozada were married on July 4 and their wedding is supposed to be part of a VH1 Reality Series that begins in September called Eve & Ocho.
The Dolphins organization has been very guarded about the type of players they add to the roster. That’s part of the reason Miami traded Brandon Marshall, who has an extensive history of off the field issues and arrests, to Chicago for two third-round pick this offseason.Johnson, a six-time Pro Bowler, had been one of the NFL’s most colorful characters on the football field, but a model citizen off it during his 11-year career.
Johnson, who is coming off his most disappointing season, hoped to use his homecoming to resurrect his NFL career. But the recent arrest could put status with the team in jeopardy.
The Dolphins have 12 receivers on the training camp roster, and while Johnson is a starter there is no guarantee he'll make it to the 53-man roster. Last week, during the first episode of HBO's Hard Knocks reality series, coach Joe Philbin chastised Johnson for using too many curse words during a press conference, and told the show Johnson needed to "get in line" with what the Dolphins organization is trying to represent.
