Bullshit the child that has attended home games could not be there. His attitude would have lifted the team to victory.

Not much to say when Penn and Finn both put up rough games. Deloney was a solid surprise and fearless.

Overall - the coaching staff really excelled this year. Really found a way to get us to where we needed to be. Was hoping Finn or Penn would throw up a huge game, which we would need to win, but was not to be.

Hopefully our run has not ended and we have some reinforcements coming next year from the portal.

Welp. Wheels kind of fell off on that one. Finn was rough to watch, although, as others have noted that shooting slump has extended from the conference tournament. Felt like the turning point was when about 16 minutes left down 5, Kam missed a corner 3 that would have cut it to two and it was kind of all one-way traffic from there.

Still, happy with how the season went with all of the question marks going in and the rough start to the year.

Also, props to the fans in the UVM section who were into it the entire game. Except for the sign kid sitting directly in front of me, he could have used a rest after a while.

Matt, Robin, Aaron and Ileri all played pretty solid games. Dylan was okay, Finn and Kam struggled, Nick and TJ did very little

In these matchups, the low major needs to play really well and/or the high major needs to struggle, and neither happened at all

"Marquette is a soft #2": very untrue

This was the least talented UVM tourney team in a while and it showed

Exactly- that was the moment the wheels fell off. We were right in it, Gibson missed the 3, Robin actually got the offensive rebound but then threw it away. From that moment on, I think we let Kam Jones score 18pts in a row and each trip down we just chucked/missed 3s. Super frustrating.

Credit where it's due, immediately: Marquette played well. They shot well, they took care of the ball, they defended. Vermont could have played a few degrees better and we still wouldn't have won if they played like that. That's why they're a Top 10 team.

But yeah, I thought we were still in it at Halftime, but there were also some underlying numbers that weren't sustainable. We actually shot well from deep in the 1st Half, but were still down 9. And then we were atrocious in the 2nd, and that's a one-way ticket out of here. Tough that Finn never got it going. Although, while winning masked a lot of this, he kinda hit a funk after that monster game against Binghamton to lock up the league title. He was decent in the AE Final, but otherwise he wasn't at his peak down the stretch.

It sucks that this is the inevitability of how the season ends, because the feeling we should get to end with was what we all experienced last Saturday. Because this team was a winner, and an impressive one at that. This was not an easy plug-and-play championship team. These guys worked, they overcame adversity they weren't used to, they adapted and adjusted to fit in where they needed to win. It really was a memorable team, and the outgoing seniors especially...Robin, Dylan, Finn, Kam...have a lot to be proud of and left a legacy that will extend well beyond a 17-point loss to the Big East champs. They didn't just win, they achieved.

On to the next one. Nothing is guaranteed, we never really know when we'll be back in this spot. But until faced with that reality, we'll have a lot to back on fondly this season.

As long as other school's Athletic Directors continue to believe they are able to hire better coach's than John Becker, then UVM will remain on top of this conference.

I was curious, so I did a thing.

Our game was the 48th 2/15 game since the expansion of the tournament in 2011. I looked at the score differential after regulation in each of those games (only a couple of OT games, but I wanted everyone on a uniform length of time).

The median margin of victory was the #2 seed by 17 points. More 15s have lost by 25+ than won.

So while we all fancy ourselves the next St. Peter's, truth is we're all a couple missteps away from being the American team from a few years back that Wisconsin slapped by 40.

As my dad said when he called me after the game, "They didn't embarrass themselves." Sometimes, that has to be good enough.

As mentioned in a different thread, in order to win a game like this, you need to play nearly perfectly and have the high seed give you some help (exhibit A: FDU vs. Purdue).

We got neither. We came nowhere close to our best game, and Marquette did not sleep on us at all. They were sharp. Credit to Shaka Smart, who has had a fantastic year coaching that team.

Regardless, this group got everything they could out of what they had. Really appreciate what they did.

Vermont was right there vs Marquette till early to mid 2nd half then cam jones just took over and marquette made some shots vermont turned it over at critical times. To pull the upset, shooting has to be way better especially in the 2nd half, they did a good job on kolek who was only 3-11 8 pts, rebounding was about equal in the stats but the turnovers at costly times and marquette shooting better was the difference.Still back to back ncaa tournaments now time to do this every year keep building a northeast powerhouse at UVM.

I kind of wonder if Kolek being out of the game hurt us because the ball found its way into the hands of players that were playing better in the moment. Either way we still lose but maybe it would have been closer if he goes 6-19 but takes 8 more shots in the second half.

We did a great job on Kolek.

I wasn't sure during the game, but afterwards ESPN confirmed that Kam Jones did in fact literally score 18pts in a row for Marquette. That scoring spree effectively ended up being the difference in the game. Dude scores 1pt in first half then 18 in a row. Unbelievable.

When was the last time that was done in the NCAA Tournament/has it ever been done?

Never discount Tom Izzo.

Somewhat disappointing to see Marquette get bounced so early.

They were competing for the first 25min... then it all vanished, no defense, no offense, not running their sets. Not sure what happened.
Bit late to comment, but have been thinking about this. I felt it was not dissimilar to the best efforts other AE teams put out when playing Vermont. They played hard, but keeping up that level of play and intensity just wasn't sustainable for 40 minutes, and they wore down.

This group of UVM players won as a team, without any true individual threats. They did themselves proud to become AE champs after such a rough and unpromising start. An NCAA tournament upset this year always seemed extremely unlikely to me. But they got to the tournament.
