What did we do to you to make you consistently root against us every game?
He is obviously rooting for anyone in range or above SLU to lose and he needs to let us know. The only outlier I found was when he was rooting for Dayton. Now SLU plays Dayton on Friday night and that rooting allegiance might have been a poor choice. Ha!

UR had a 5 point lead with a minute to go. They had a 3 point lead with under 20 seconds and fouled Bishop on a driving lay up giving him an And One to tie the game. Bad choices down the stretch of regulation for the Spiders. GW had a Montereys game from Bishop and Adams.

I watched several games last night on three devices 🤣 Mason looked bad but Duquesne's D makes teams look bad when they are locked in. Bona could not handle La Salle's three headed guard play. Bona is a team that strays from the game plan time to time which results in losses. SBU's guards can fall into ISO play and it kills them. Fordham has a good team and Urgo is a fiery coach. They really get going in the 2nd half of games. UMass is a mess though. I see Fordham as a top 4 team when the regular season wraps up. I did not check in on Loyola and St Joe's. St Joe's won and is playing good ball lately. The A10 tournament is gonna be wild.

You nailed the Bona diagnosis. Losses seem to directly correlate with freelancing guard play. The iso ball kills us.
Yeah. College ball players can give you heartburn. The Bona guards are good but sometimes they go off script. Luc (I think that is how you spell it) tends to dribble too much and he is a small guard. IMO having the ball in Yann's hands would be cool. But what do I know?

How do you feel about some of these calls from this crew, ‘03? Multiple odd calls from the guy across the court while the play develops in front of his partner.
The officiating was odd to say the least. A Tech 3 minutes into a game is just over sensitive. Unless the kid said something egregious or used some magic words, tell him to knock it off and move on. The call against Venning near the end is indefensible. The lead official was not in any position to make that call and he clearly guessed (and guessed wrong). I am sure he will be getting a call from his assignor today about it. There were a few other calls like that. The one on Banks comes to mind but it turns out he actually did push the guy. You just dont see referees venturing out of their primary all that often and I see it more and more lately. I see leads calling across the lane when they should be letting the C get it or at least let the C decide on it. I was too focused on our shitty defense to notice too much about the officials but I definitely noticed those odd circumstances.

My bet is these officials are under a lot of pressure (from above or just from themselves) and that is never a good thing. I can speak from experience that when you put extra pressure on yourself, you make strange calls and forget your fundamentals.

Only the Explorers got the job done for me yesterday.

I think the 4 spot is between Fordham Duquesne and the Bonnies all flawed teams but can get it going on any night. Fordham has the edge because we beat both of them and play them at home but that can change quickly. Also the loser of the SLU Dayton game Friday is going to be looking over their shoulder, especially SLU which I think is the weakest of the top three teams. Collins is good but he can be slowed down and the supporting cast can be beaten. I was not sold on them before we beat them and I am still not sold.

The iso tendencies came back last night and it killed us. Offensive possessions winding down the shot clock and a bullshit 1-on-1 play when you can't rebound. Careless with the ball. They need to unlearn the crap that came back last night at just the worst times.

Overall, I do think SLU is the team to beat if I had to handicap the A10 tournament, but they aren't clear-cut head and shoulders above. And it's hard to exclude anyone from potentially winning - it could be crazy. Especially with the added rest day playing early and needing 4 or 5 wins isn't necessarily a hindrance.

A simple stat about the Bonnies. We are 0-8 when our opponent scores more than 70+ points.

If we play a team with a decent to strong offense and we don't play lockdown defense, we probably aren't going to win.

Your post highlights an issue not discussed: how our team matches up with another skews our view. For Fordham, SLU is a team we match up well with. Dayton with its size and length is a nightmare. I am interested to see how we fare at VCU mixed bag on that matchup.

You nailed it A.A. I have nothing against the Bonnies or anyone else, but I am rooting against whatever team has less A-10 losses, since they are a threat to knock us out of the top four. The Billikens are reaching the toughest part of their conference schedule, with 2 games against the Flyers and a road game against your Rams of Richmond. This starts with tomorrow night’s battle for the Arch Baron Cup. As you guys know, the Billikens are playing very shaky bball right now, and I’m very concerned they will drop out of the top four.

As much as the total lack of defense at times in the Jay era was maddening, it sure was nice having that firepower. The idea that a Bonnies team could win a game by simply outscoring an opponent seems like a pipe dream over the last 5 seasons.

On SLU I agree with both Rich and BI85. They are the most complete team- depth, experience and well rounded. However they have shown nothing this season to suggest they will get their shit together for 3 straight in the face of season ending ferocity. BUT, the most similar team under Ford to this one did exactly that in 2019. BUT, this year is even more wild than that one. Juan was not presiding over Brookyln that year, either, like he will this year.

This Bona offense is close to the worst Schmidt has had in 16 years at SBU. This year we are averaging 66.8 PPG good for 305th in the country, in 2019 we averaged 66.2 PPG good for 315th and in Schmidt's first year we averaged 66.4 PPG good for 227th.

Conversely, our defense has been close to top 100 five years in a row (2023-79th... 2022-97th...2021-7th..2020-109th...2019-18th)

What about the Flagrant 1 foul that wasn't called on Venning when he swung his elbows wildly and clocked Brickus in the mouth? Brickus was bleeding no less and the refs had the balls to call that a foul on Brickus even after the review and they saw Brickus bleeding. That was a bullshit call and it should have been reversed, Brickus didn't touch him.
