Inquirer columnist Jim Salisbury says new Phillies GM Pat Gillick has chatted with the Blue Jays about swapping Bobby Abreu for Vernon Wells and has begun preliminary talks with Seattle about a trade involving Jim Thome.

Seattle wont be giving up anything good at all for Thome, and I hope Toronto doesn't do this deal, Wells is better than Abreu.

the only way i do the deal imo is if we can get another big bat from the right side to protect Abreu in the lineup...maybe a Piazza would do it, but maybe not....the reason i dont do the deal is the contract Wells is signed for....i believe that he may have 3 more years at 5 mil per whereas Abreu will be making 3Xs that....

a lot of intanibles in this deal....really has me on the fence...

We would be trading our number one run producer for another one to take his place who will cost more. As much I like Abreu, this deal seems pointless to me if it's a 1 for 1 trade.
