WHAT ABOUT FREDDIE JONES? MOST PEOPLE THINK THE PACERS WERE CRAZY FOR PASSING UO WOODS AND RUSH AND BORCHARDT TO PICK FREDDIE JONES AT #14. HOWEVER, INDIANA WORKED OUT ALL OF THESE PLAYERS, AND THEY WENT WITH FREDDIE, SO HE OBVIOUSLY SHOWED THEM SOMETHING SPECIAL. I DONT KNOW WHY EVERYONE LISTENS TO MOCK DRAFTS AND WHAT THE SO CALLED "EXPERTS" SAY ANYWAY. THEY ARE WRONG 50% OF THE TIME. SO ABOUT FREDDIE BE PICKED SO HIGH, WHO WOULD YOU TRUST? ONE OF THE NBAS TOP 3 GMS DONNIE WALSH OR SOME FAT WHITE GUY SITTING AT A DESK ON ESPNEWS MAKING $6.75 AN HOUR? FREDDIE HIT I THINK 5 GAME WINNERS (UNDER 5 SECONDS TO GO EACH TIME) INCLUDING ONE IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT. HE FINISHED 2ND IN THE SLAM DUNK CONTEST AND THEY SAY HE'S THE MOST ATHLETIC MOST EXCITING PLAYER IN THE DRAFT. HOPEFULLY PACERS HAVE GOTTEN ANOTHER GREAT PICK , LIKE TINSLEY AT 27 AND AL HARRINGTON AT 25. WELL SEE.

How is Donnie Walsh a top 3 GM. Gettin knocked out of the playoff last year in the first round isn't very impressive. Traded away you best player, Rose, for a bunch of Chicago leftovers wasn't the best move either. Personally I think Freddie Jones will be a good player. I also think the Pacers could have traded down, gotten another player or pick and still gotten mr. Jones.

Freddie Jones at pick 14 comes in as a real shock for all of us but come on let's be serious and stop hating for awhile maybe the Pacers really did see something special in this kid that we haven't. He may very well be a player who will learn alot from Reggie Miller like they said. It seems like a ridiculous pick but I for one ain't going to judge this pick early, it's pretty incomplete IMO.

Pacers fan shouldn't panic, I suggest you guys just wait and see if he can deliver the goods and then praise or critisize your management. Good luck anyways, Indiana Pacers fans.

Donnie Walsh has made a lot of good moves as a GM. Getting rid of Jalen Rose was the best thing that happened to the Pacers. Jalen needs to learn that you have to play defense. It was also very obvious that Jalen was very jealous of Jamaal Tinsley. The Pacers made playoffs as a team that was rebuilding. They are going to be favorites in the east and they are a team of the future.

Fred Jones...

He could become a good player but will more than likely be nothing more than a sixth man. He is a 6-3 1/2 SG. His jumpshot is not the best. He is going to struggle for playing time behind Reggie Miller and Ron Mercer.

Fred Jones will kill. He is has loads of athletic skill, and doesn't need to hit the weight room as much as most of the draft picks. This is a pick that the Pacers used because they wanted someone who can come in and play right away. They have showed patcience with all their high school players (Bender, O'Neal, and Harington) and now they need someone who can step in and play now that they are ready. The Pacers are done rebuilding and are ready to make another run.

The thing is....

The biggest thing that was involved in Indiana selecting Jones at 14 was that he brings something none of the current Pacers perimter players bring. That is, slashing, athletscism, rebounding from the guard sports and a capable defender.

Sure he won't play right away but he could end up turning heads in a few years if he is given aple oppurtun.

i compare jones to trepangier as of now. both have very good athleticism but neither has a very well developed jumper. i think indiana was reaching when they took him at 14. they could have easily traded down to the 20-25th pick and easily gotten him then.

Bad comparison. Jones is far superior in many aspects of the game.

He is a better, Rebounder, shot blocker, passer, shooter, slasher and they are comparable although different defensivley.

Just because they both got hops and played pac 10 ball don't mean they are similar players.

they both played similar games. both like to take their opponent off the dribble. both are very quick. both have superior hops. both have an almost non-existent jump shot. both r undersized shooting guards(the only position they can play). and finally, both were a reach to be taken in the first round.

Trepagnier is actually an excellent comparison.

Jones does nothing better than Trepagnier defensively. Trepagnier has excellent ability on the defensive end. While Freddie can match the agility and athleticism on defense, he doesn't match the skills Trepagnier has.

Trepagnier was a fantastic slasher and finisher. Jones was not a better slasher. Trepagnier was also an excellent rebounder for a guard. He averaged close to 7boards a game one year. Jones is not the better boarder.

And both players need a lot of work on their ball handling and passing ability. You can't give either player the edge.

Both players are undersized two guards with no J, that live off their athleticism. The one and only thing I think Jones definitely has the advantage in is his bulk. He's got a good 15lbs on Trepagnier.

The two are extremely similar, and I think it is an excellent comparison.
