The KNICKS?

Why would Kevin McHale trade Wally World for LATRELL SPREWELL? If he thinks that he can't afford to pay Wally World the max or whatever, well, why would he trade Wally World to a guy who DOES make the max, somebody who CANNOT hold Wally World's jock?

Spree for Wally World AIN'T gonna happen, people. Either the Timberwolves trade Wally World NOW or sometime before the trade deadline (while he is still making less than $3 mil), OR McHale will re-sign him next summer, OR McHale WON'T re-sign him next summer. McHale WON'T max him out next summer and THEN trade him for LATRELL SPREWELL, it won't happen. PERIOD.

What will PROBABLY happen here is this. McHale waits until NEXT summer, he sees what kind of offers Wally World gets, and he matches that offer. Why max out Wally World NOW? What if nobody offers him the max next summer? Why not just wait and see what he is worth on the open market?

Anyway, YEAH, I think McHale will match any offer next summer, he has no choice. The big question is THIS: Will Kevin Garnett get traded next summer? If KG can sign elsewhere for the max during the summer of 2004, someplace better than Minnesota, well WON'T he? So shouldn't the Timberwolves get what they CAN for him next summer?

REGARDLESS, Wally World for Spree AIN'T gonna happen. And it CAN'T happen right NOW, anyway, because the contracts don't match up. The Knicks would have to take on either Terrell Brandon's contract OR the contracts of Marc Jackson and Joe Smith in order to make this work. If you trade Brandon, here's your starting lineup:

PG Travis Best (?)
SG Latrell Sprewell
SF Kevin Garnett
PF Joe Smith
C Radoslav Nesterovic

If you trade Jackson and Smith, here's your starting lineup:

PG Terrell Brandon
SG Anthony Peeler
SF Latrell Sprewell
PF Kevin Garnett
C Radoslav Nesterovic

Nah, it won't happen, Spree's contract sucks, and he REALLY lost a step (maybe 2-3 steps) last season. Maybe Wally World gets traded sometime over the next few months, but it WON'T be to the KNICKS! No way!
