I was going to say Dennis Rodman as well. He guarded guys from Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, and Shaq. Very versatile defender in his younger days.

Dumars deserves to be on that list too.

As far as lock down defender? I would say Joe D because he made Jordan mortal on a consistant basis. As far as game altering D? Ben

I do think Joe D was the best at guarding jordan in the league but it wasn't really him by himself that kept jordan in check it was more of team effort. I think the best defensive player ever for the pistons was Rodman. To compare him to wallace rebounding wise they are about equal. Ben is the better shot blocker but rodman was a better one on one defender. I think defending someone is much tougher than blocking a shot.
