Early read, but here's what they are saying. I like NBADraft and About.com. I think DraftExpress is nuts. Hoopshype's a bit crazy too. [Nets aint gonna take a 6-foot point guard.]

NBADraft.net

--Josh Boone, UConn
--Kevin Pittsnoogle, WVA

--Curtis Stinson, Iowa

Draft Express

--Maurice Ager, Mich State
--Dee Brown, Illinois

--Gerry McNamara

Hoopshype

--Thabo Sefolosha, Switzerland/France [6'6" swingman who is similar to Antoine Wright]
--Dee Brown, Illinois

--no second round mock

About.com

--Hilton Armstrong, UConn
--Marcus Williams, UConn

--Marcus Vinicius aka "Marquinhos", Brazil [6'9" swingman who can play three positions but is rail thin.]

I wouldn't mind if the Nets were able to draft the bolded players.
When thinking about the draft, remember the patterns from the past drafts of the Thorn era, particularly the first rounders:

1. They pick best player available...or say they do.

2. Best player available doesn't mean best offensive player available. Nets have a bias for defenders: Martin and Samake in 2000 were seen as excellent defenders and shot blockers, Jefferson and Collins in 2001 were seen as excellent positional defenders, Wright and Ilic in 2005, also seen as good defenders. And Planinic had a reputation as a good defender in Europe[!].

3. They draft big. The average height for a Net pick in the Thorn era is 6'10". They have drafted four seven-footers: Samake, Collins, Krstic, and Ilic. Shortest player drafted: Brandon Armstrong at 6'5". Dee Brown? I doubt it.

4. They are as likely to pick an international player as they are an American. Five of the 12 players picked in the Thorn era have held international passports on Draft night. Only the Nets and Spurs have used at least one of their picks on an international player the past four drafts.

5. They are willing to let a player stay in Europe for up to two years. Of the Nets last eight picks, three stayed in Europe: Krstic, Drejer and Ilic. Krstic stayed in Europe for two years. Drejer has already stayed in Europe for two years...and may never again engender interest by the Nets. And I doubt Ilic will be coming over in the summer for anything other than weight training.

The draft isn't looking too bad at all for the Nets.

Draftexpress is by far the best site. The only thing is right now players are not matched up to team needs.

extremely true. however, if we can land the following american players, i think thorn will

1. josh boone - from what i hear, a great defender
2. kevin pittsnogle - GREAT shooter, not much of a inside presence.
3. dee brown- explosive pg, successor to jkidd?
4. marcus williams - uconn's premier ball handler, successor to jkidd?
5. shelden williams - excellent big man, not much of a fastbreak player

if we can land pittsnogle or boone, i think we have a real shot next year, because to my knowledge, those two players played 4 yrs, so they have the experience.

we'll probably draft the best player available, so don't get your hopes up too much.
I really don't think the Nets need a Pittsnogle type player. All of their bigmen can already shoot, and I believe Krstic will likely develop/use a 3pt shot over the next couple seasons. A Josh Boone, Shelden Williams type player would really make a nice tandem with Krstic.
unless we trade up, we have no chance at sheldon IMO cuz he is killing the tournament right now
i wish we'd get sheldon. but i doubt it. he may drop though who knows...
I don't like Dee Brown or Gerry McNamara.

I love Marcus Williams. I hope "Laptopgate" lingers until the draft, but I doubt it.
First off, the mock drafts don't mean anything.

They're all poor speculation based on draft order.

Dee Brown won't be happening.

Second, some of the big men might fall.

If not, the NETS might go overseas.

Finally, it's premature to discuss the draft right now!

They are not the "best by far". They are marginally better. None of them are that great after the first five.

all true, but it's all out there anyway.
I predict that pittsnogle will be slightly more athletic version of sam perkins(with little worse stats) and I am very against drafting him. If we are gonna draft a big man, we need inside presence. Josh boone certainly has potential to give us that but pittsnogle doesn't.
as for pgs, I like marcus williams than dee brown. Williams runs the team better and is a better passer. Dee brown is a better shooter and more explosive. Marcus will be better future starter and dee brown would be better off the bench energy guy.

o/t- It was pretty funny chanting Where's My laptop in game vs uconn..
Marcus Williams would be nice to have as a late first round pick.

I'd be fine with Hilton Armstrong, Kevin Pittsnoggle, or Josh Boone, or Joakim Noah if he declares, although I'm guessing he'd go lottery. (Don't call me crazy, Andrew Bynum went lottery)

Gerry McNamara, if he's available in the second round would be worth considering.

Correct, they are not ranking based on team needs. They do have the most in depth player profiles. Although, I must say latley they are very out of date. They use to keep much more on top of them, but some go back to last season. Maybe that lawsuit thing drained them of some resources.
16 games til playoffs and the draft order isn't determined, but i wouldn't mind the 1st or 3rd mock.
1st or last one would work for me. So long as we get size I don't care. Krstic provides the scoring at the 4/5. Pittsnoggle as the 2nd big would not be bad. He can shoot the ball and isn't as bad as his reputation defensively and inside wise. Hilton and Boone are more the defensive inside size they need. You could have a Pittsnoggle with Collins and would have shooting with the defense. Boone or Hilton plus Krstic would be the other half. Don't think you would want two rookies playing together. In any case two bigs gives you double the chance to pick a winner.
M Williams or Dee Brown both are good choices IMO would be nice if one fell to the second round.

You are wrong...but that's okay.
Draftexpress is the only site with active domestic and international scouts that watch games and have real contacts with NBA big wigs.

Their evaluations (note, I didn't say predictions) are the best in the business.
