Ok, I saw this poll on NBA.com . they poll question was, If you could choose any player to start a team today, who would it be? I chose Jason Kidd. He seems to be a good player to start a team around( just ask thorn). I mean hes not a ballhog, theres never alot of contraversy with him, and look what he did for the nets. the other choices were shaq, kobe, duncan, and i think garnett, or other. go take the poll, voice your opinion to the NBA world!!

I think your choice of kidd is solid. If you go back about 15 yrs except for the bulls championships every team that has won it or for the most part made the finals either had a really good pg or c. We know the lal have won the last three (dominate c) before them in no paticular order their was the spurs (dominate c) and they played the knicks (dominate c) Houston (dominate c) played Orlando (dominate c) before that in the late 80's pistons (dominate pg) played the lakers (dominate pg and c) but you get the point. Obiviously I would chose a pg or c and at this point probably go with kidd.

It depends on how I wanted to go about getting to the top. If I wanted to win the championship that year and maybe a couple more years I'd choose Shaq to build around. But, if I wanted to try and build a fresh dynasty that would compete for years and years I would choose Kobe, McGrady, or Duncan.

Shaq-even though he is getting old and wont play much longer he is still the most dominant player in the league right now.

I disagree. Over the past 10-15 years teams haven't needed to have a dominating point guard. I think it's just important to have the most talented people...not necessarily by position. For example, I wouldn't consider Derek Fisher, Avery Johnson, Steve Kerr, Kenny "the jet" Smith, or B.J. Armstrong exceptional point guards. The last great PG to lead his team to a championship was Isiah. He sure didn't do it on his own either...Had some help from Dumars, Vinnie, Laimbeer, and The Worm that's for sure. So, really I think the best position to build a team around is center...but that doesn't necessarily mean you have to. If you can have the most talented player ever at SG (Jordan), or one of the other positions, you won't be any worse off; and I think you will have a chance at winning a few championships. :grinning:

brian, the difference with the leaders of championship teams you've mentioned and kidd was the ability to be a go-to guy. the guy you want to take the shots down the stretch. i think guys like duncan, kobe, tmac, and obviously shaq fit the profile much better than kidd. isiah and magic separate themselves from kidd in their ability to call their own numbers.

kidd's a great player. i just would pick some other stars ahead of him.

why would you build around c-webb, yes he is a big man, but when it comes down to it he couldnt help you win in the playoffs.

it's hard to say who i would pick to start a team because often times a good team needs more than one person to be successful (and be considered as a team, not a one-man squad). jkidd is a good team player because, if you take a look at the nets, he brought chemistry to the team and that's why they were able to succeed this past season.

this would be a very good team to have:
PF-Ben Wallace-rebound and dirty work
SF-Ron Artest-good defender
SG-Tracy McGrady-Best all around player in league
PG-Andre Miller-one of best PGs in league
C-Raef LaFrentz- can bring the other center/power foward out

the chemistry on this team could be great

How About This Team...

How about this team? It's a good team, and more realistic than others because not every player is a star.

C-Brad Miller 7-0 261
PF-Danny Fortson 6-8 260
SF-Lamar Odom 6-10 221
SG-Kobe Bryant 6-7 210
PG-Alvin Williams 6-5 185

1)Duncan-He's a young big man and unstopable, outside of shaq, the only "unstopable" inside offensive weapons. He can drive, spin, post up, and has that killer bank shot from mid range. You can't defend him unless you double or triple him. He is the best player in the league by far. I don't know how the hell any of you could prefer a kidd, or mcgrady before him...
2)Shaq-He's older, better inside spin moves then duncan, but he is still older. Whoever has shaq(lakers) can contend for 3 or 4 mroe years. With duncan, you can have only duncan and be able to contend for next 10.

After that I would have
3-TIE)pierce-more well rounded off. game then kobe(IE shooting mid range to distance). I think he has the deadliest off game outside of the big guys
3-TIE)Kobe-better d then pierce, I like his close to close-mid game offensively more then pierce
5)tmac-He is a great defender but doesn't take it seriously every single game, and his off game isn't smooth, IE it works when he is going isolation, but otherwise I'd rather have pierce/kobe.
