If we give up RJ and Vince, then I don't htink so. If we give up one of them, it'd make the Nets contenders.

it depends what we surround kidd-kg and whoever else we dont trade for him. trading away rj and vince or rj or vince with krstic-fillers-picks will not make us a champ contender. we need to bring in good role players, thats what will make us a championship team. we need real shooters to have an effective in-out game like miami had last yr with shaq and the jones boys. kg will put us in that championship direction because you need a big man to win it these days, but kg alone wont win us anything.

I'd be very upset if we traded Nenad even for a guy like Garnett.
To be honest I was one of those who lost abit of interest when we went into a rebuilding mode. There really wasn't much to cheer for entering the season. But after the VC/Flexo trade and getting Krstic into the starter's role + the short playoff run I gained confidence in the team again.
For all his faults(foul prone, doesn't finish strong around the basket etc), Krstic is still 22 years old. When everyone mentions Dwight, Bosh and guys like that as the future of the NBA they omitt Nenad who's got quite a bright future himself.

The NETS made the finals twice with K-Mart and KVH. Has KG even smelled the rarefied air of a finals match? No!!! Who's to say he won't bring that karma to NJ?
The reality is that a lone superstar in mid-career is rarely the difference between a title and playoff appearance. For every Jabbar, Wilt & Shaq, there's a thousand no-ring wannabes. Moreover instant success didn't quite accompany these nomadic all-time greats.
The difference between a good and great team that earns a title could be as llittle as the coach and/or a little better player at a particular position - not necessarily what appears as the so-called "best" player at that position. In fact, the best could be the worst! the so-called best player could ruin a team's chemistry and distort the salary structure and adversely impact other factors affecting its success. A lot goes into a title ... including luck. Look at Detroit?
There are plenty of unknown, up and coming PFs that might fit the bill like Wilcox, Ely and others. They may bring the aspects the NETS need without getting into an overpriced albatross. That may be all that the NETS need to get over the top. It's basically defense, rebounding and tough athletic play at the 4.
Granted, KG matches up well with TD and others ... that should boost the NETS fortunes in certain respects - but games are not played on paper. It remains to be seen how it would pan out. KG at any price doesn't make sense.
Do you really want to mortagage the future and give up on an improving young team blended with heady superstar veterans that's proven it will vye for the playoffs year in and year out and contend each year, possibly for a title with a few adjustments, in return for a team that revolves around one personality?
If KG wants to be in NJ, he'll find a way. :angel:

Certainly, if KG wants to come on fair terms, GM Thorn has more chips than anyone to make it happen. What bothers me though is that KG rumors are popping up everywhere for every team. NY IND, SF, CHI and elsewhere. KG needs to choose where he wants to be ... like with J-Kidd ... and everything else'd work out.
FWIW, what's wrong with parting with a few picks or talent for the likes of Troy Murphy, Sean May, Diogu or others that have real unproven potential that could bring exactly what the NETS need without the price. Why trade the team for KG? There's a certain humility with young unproven players that makes for better chemistry. :cheers:
