Will you judge Colangelo on how he deals with Mike James?

Reading the boards it's clear that this has been a hot topic of signing James or not, perhaps sign and trade if possible and of course determining his value. To me this is Colangelo's biggest immediate challenge in how to deal with James.

My opinion is James would be great as a 6th man type player(occasional starter) but unfortunately it wont happen now in TO since he had his career year. I like his leadership, tenacity and hustle attitude but his selfish play at times is a real negative. For the money he will want, i think a sign and trade is best option for us. His worth on the market is as high as it will possibly be and getting something for him instead of walking is needed imo.

Anyhow, its been a honeymoon for Colangelo so far in Toronto. This will judge the marriage.

Your thoughts?

JJ top 5?

So whats the order?

You must have forog that Kobe, DWade, T-mac, Allen, Vince and the rest are SG's too...
What other team would want Mike James as their PG ... other than the Raptors?

The Raptors have given bloated contracts to lesser players in the past ... so why stop now, particularily since the Raptors will be weaker next season without James and some rookie guard.

What we don't know is exactly what James feels he is worth with the Raptors .... 3 years - $20 mil .... 4 years - $24 mil .... 5 years - $25 mil ...????

The business decision made by BC will be interesting ... because if he let's James go then he is building a different team around Bosh and Villanueva, and next season may be worse than this season during the long term rebuild.

I would like to hear BC tell us when he thought his Raptors will be a contending team.

I have McGrady listed as an SF.
The thing with Mike James is that he wouldn't be a starter on most teams in the NBA. The teams he could possibly start on as of now would be NY, Atlanta, Lakers, Portland(maybe), Minnesota, and maybe Cleveland.

Only one of those teams, Atlanta, and us have the space to give the guy what he's calling for in the papers recently. Would Atlanta spend their capspace on a 30 year old PG,? Not likely, I could see them going after Jason Terry before Mike James. Would Mike James play as hard for a team next year if he was coming off the bench? Not likely he seems to enjoy the spotlight and really steps up to plate (not a condemnation).

So, really Mike James can't really be too demanding in his situation this offseason. My worry would be that we sign him to a reasonable offer and he feels slighted that he didn't get 'his', I think a lot of people would feel a bit slighted by this. But there aren't a lot of teams who can offer more than the MLE this year, and even fewer teams where he could be the starter. So I think that signing James to a reasonable contract (if that's what the team wants to do) shouldn't be too hard, but I'd be really worried about how Mike James would react to being 'underpaid' for his services.

Very tricky situation for BC but I'm sure he'll handle it well, he's got a lot more information and insight in dealing with this situation than we do. I'll be a little upset if he gets resigned because I don't like his style of play as a PG, but if he gets resigned, even with all the warning signs that we've seen as fans, it will be because BC had good reason.

How exactly did Atlanta get screwed when Joe Johnson is a Top 5 SG and the pick's are protected?
i underrstand where u are coming from...but i mean that u guys really dint "need" Joa Johnson...i mean u drafted Williams, u have Josh Smith and Childress and All Harrington who can all play the 2-3 (xcept for al) that what i mean in terms of screwed...no disrespect to JJ he is playing well, but do u really think u guys needed him? and u lost Boris Diaw who was a ery good player..and a pick..but i dont no the detail of when u get the pick and whether its protected or not....

The Suns will receive Atlanta's own first round pick no later than the 2008 NBA Draft. That pick which is "lottery" protected (1-14) in 2006, has protection through No. 3 in 2007 and has no protection in 2008. In addition the Suns will also receive a conditional first round pick via either the Los Angeles Lakers or Boston Celtics from an earlier trade between Boston and Atlanta. The Laker pick which is subject to protection through No. 10 in 2006, protection through No. 5 in draft years 2007-2010 and unconditional in 2011, is owed to Boston from yet another previous trade. In the year that the Laker pick is conveyed to Boston, Phoenix will receive the least favorable of Boston's own pick or the Laker pick.

Brian will of course be judge by the Mike James situation, because it will be his first big decision.
Signing Chris to an Extension isn't even a decision ... you just need to do it !

By the way is it just me or is Brian keeping a really low profile right now ? I tought he would be preparing the free agents hunt by trying to make publicity for the city of Toronto and the Raptors ownership or something. What did we get ? 1 or 2 small statements, that's it ?

Where's the CHARISMA !?

Maybe he is in shock because he just found out that Bosh does not want to stay in Toronto.

Or maybe he is in shock because he has come to the same realization as Babcock did ... 4 - 5 years before the Raptors can hope to be a contending team .... provided all the pieces fall into place.

Maybe he is in shock because he figures the Raptors will not get any better next season either due to the rebuilding problems.

Maybe he is in shock because is wife doesn't want to live in Toronto ...... !!!

When you have the change to sign 24 tear old TOP5 SG you do it and figure things out after that. Harrington is as good as gone after this season and theres plenty of minutes to go around for Smith, Williamd and Childress. There are games where every one of them log +30 minutes. And JJ can play the point from time to time too.

But I do agree that 2 1st round pics were too much, but not really complaining. If things work out as planned the 2008 pick won't be a lottery one and by then Atlanta should be loaded of young talent already.

I'm happy if he is back but not at his current asking price of 6 mill/year

3 years 14 mill.

Yep. I wouldn't be surprised if he resigns before the end of the season.
Thanks MonsterBosh.
