I've heard a lot of people saying we have to draft an experienced guy, a guy who can come in and contibute right away. Check this out:the PER rating for the first 9 players picked in the 2004 draft.

Rookie PER (through 3/29)
20-and-over PER
Emeka Okafor 15.96
Jameer Nelson 15.19
Josh Childress 14.89
Ben Gordon 14.72
Devin Harris 14.63
Andre Iguodala 13.23
Viktor Khryapa 9.46
Kirk Snyder 7.61
Rafael Araujo 6.78
Average 12.50

Teenagers PER
Dwight Howard 16.61
Al Jefferson 16.20
Josh Smith 15.28
Andris Biedrins 14.51
Luol Deng 14.44
J.R. Smith 12.23
Sebastian Telfair 8.28
Kris Humphries 8.04
Shaun Livingston 7.24
Average 12.54

So, is it really that important to draft a guy with a lot of experience? I don't think so.
