Since Gus played for City Rocks, I think it's fair to say that recruiter and recruitee were familiar (and appreciated) one another prior to this portal period. See Matty V.

As far as Ben, I think that Tibbs, a former City Rocks coach, assisted with the familiarity factor.

Vermont has plenty of minutes available for big men, a winning tradition as well as some pay. It's a nice landing spot for these guys.

Hurley has the greenlight with Vermont. If he went to another program, a larger one, he might be relegated to a role player, and he might wind up hurting his game, as well as his professional opportunities. In short, as Becker likes to say, Vermont is his team.

If a Shamir Bogues talent is available and wants to play for Vermont, yes, take him. Is it even a question?

How and more importantly, why, would a former assistant coach assist in letting one of his current team's better players go to a former school that employed him? Especially when that assistant coach will be in grave danger of being unemployed next year, because his boss has been a complete failure at Buffalo?

So, former UVM assistants are self-sabotaging their own employment to help their ex-employers? We reach new depths every day on here, folks.

what if he is planning his exit and return to Vermont?

1) Tell me where there's a staff opening for him right now.

2) He left for Albany back when because he knew he was not going to progress up the rankings and would always be behind Schneider. Nothing on that front has changed. And, his resume when not being brought on to leverage a relationship with a single player is not very good.

So stop making up theories on loose threadlines. It's actually pretty disrespectful to the current coaches. You know the ones who actually sealed the deal on Michaels?

Pretty sure he was asking a question rather than making up a theory. And if I recall, you were disrespectful of O'Grady when he got the promotion. Might be wrong there as I am going off memory. But then again, might be right.

Asking bad questions is something that's very real, and the line of thought around Tibbs in any way having any involvement in UVM landing a player from a team he currently works for is something that should not be entertained seriously, nor is it worthy of being made for chit-chat.

And yes, I was critical of O'Grady when he was promoted. I wasn't the only one. He's still got a lot he'll have to prove on the job in many areas, particularly recruiting, but guess what? I'd never give a former assistant coach credit for a transfer commitment because it came from the school he works for...I give credit where credit is due, and landing Michaels belongs to any and all of Becker, Schnieder, Johnson, and O'Grady. Not to Hamlet Tibbs.

That shouldn't be a struggle for anyone to grasp.

As long as other people also were critical of him, I guess it's a-ok that you were too. It always makes it acceptable as long as you are part of a group. And FWIW, I think you referred to him as a clown. But again, as long as others were saying the same thing, it is fine. That shouldn't be a struggle for anyone to grasp either. Or maybe it should it be?

I was critical of him. I never called him a clown. Here's every post I wrote about O'Grady last year. I stated I believed he was in the correct role, and called him "the silly guy the team likes" - because he can be a silly guy...just watch whenever they mic'd him up. The rest of it, I was simply skeptical of him taking the leap because he stuck around for a long time in a role that, normally, many people do not, as they look to go out and get experience elsewhere. I questioned whether giving someone like, that who had no recruiting experience in an era where everyone on the staff has to be pretty adept at it in a variety of ways, was a good idea. Once he was hired, I said he had to step up, take the baton and run with it. I think that was a generally fair assessment of him.

To try and use my skeptical opinion of O'Grady being promoted as a way to allow you to entertain the patently ridiculous notion that Hamlet Tibbs would steer a player from his own team (who his team desperately wanted to keep) to UVM because he's just such a nice guy who used to work for UVM is not remotely the same. But, I sense people know that. I sense it has a lot more to do with the person telling you that it's ridiculous than it is actually thinking about how ridiculous it sounds.

Ok...please take this to the back of the school yard, fellas. This has already gotten old.

The cupboard is not bare.

TJH probably accepted a significant home team discount. I believe that he wants Becker to have the resources to put a winning team around him.

If the two recent commits pan out as hoped, Becker got a good value.

I’d guess that there’s still room for 2-3 $ players.
That’s great to hear. Because honestly, if we were to be out of money or low on $ to acquire players with 5 scholarships to go that would….not be good.

Presumably, money will be earmarked for guys who are expected to be starters/big minutes contributors and round out your roster with guys you can get with the appeal of playing in a proven system with a history of winning.

As it should be

Sparingly used guard from the Pittsburgh area who showed off good perimeter ability albeit in limited action.

1) The guy who committed to La Salle opened things back up, so he's back on the market.

2) The dead period that I believe started last weekend through this Friday, is now over. On-campus visits now can be arranged, and visitors can be on campus this weekend. Look out for breadcrumbs.

3) Points 1 and 2 are not related. Just separate statements at least as far as I know as of right this second.

Looks like a good-sized point guard who can score inside and outside the arc with good defensive numbers.

File this under "I don't know how he has eligibility left."

2021: Louisiana (20 games played) (Covid Year)
2022: Louisiana (16 games played) (Year 1)
2023: Eastern Washington (20 games played) (Year 2)
2024: The Master's U (33 games played) (Year 3)
2025: Youngstown State (34 games played) (Year 4)

So unless he's aiming for some kind of augmented Pavia Waiver, where he's interpreting his year at an NAIA school (The Master's) as being the same as a JUCO year because they're both non-NCAA institutions, even though every sane person knows they are in no way the same, and therefore should be granted 1 additional year because his eligibility is expiring this year...I do not know how he's going to be able to play next year.
