I think woodyard is pretty established on what he is at this level. His playing time will def be based on defense and who else we can add so overall stats should reflect that but what he brings will be what’s expected. Michaels def looks like a guy who going to fill the stat sheet most and likely start. His production at a higher level and lack of competition at the forward spot. I think he will be our Face up 4 at this point.
Right, Coach has a good idea of what Woodyard can and can not do. His playing time may depend on who else is on the roster. If he's the best option, then he'll play. We're seeing a lot of signings this last week and Vermont still has three or four openings. Should we be concerned at the lack of activity on the homefront?

My lack of enthusiasm for the Woodyard signing has nothing to do with him as a player. Losing virtually an entire season to a concussion does not bode well for his future ability to survive the rigors of a college basketball season. They don't get better, they just get worse. And his was clearly bad. Why would the coaching staff, coming off a season where they had a player lose 2/3 of a season at least in part due to concussions, then go out and sign a player who missed 4/5 of a season due to concussion. It seems like a bad risk for the school, and especially the player given all of the research studies out there on CTE. I have no doubt the Trey can contribute from a talent perspective. I just not sure he should be risking his future health for a shot at getting crushed in the first round of the tournament.

Woodyard is exactly the type of swings a team like UVM needs to take when it needs 5 dudes and likely doesn’t have a huge NIL account balance remaining.

Presumably, doctors have cleared him to play and he wants to keep playing, which is good enough for me. Hopefully, the injury risk turns out positive and unlike last year’s injury risk signing (Odom).

May end up with more than 1 YTP with an injury waiver, I think. Kinda hard to track his eligibility, can't really figure out where his FR year was. Similar profile to other guys we've tapped into lately: bigger guard, does more work inside the arc than outside. Solid defensive numbers.

ADDED: Hudson Ward, 6-7 F, Penn State, 3 YTP: Hudson Ward - 2024-25 Men's Basketball

Rode pine at PSU, but played for the Canada U-17 where he showed some perimeter skills. Played in the All-Canada game against Sean Blake. Still think it'd be a big get if we're able to reel him in, but certainly having him on campus is a good start.

Are there guys out there still that seem better than Woodyard? Definitely.

Are there guys out there that seem better than Woodyard that we’d all probably love to have, but UVM cannot afford? Definitely

Are we going to have to take some players that might have some “warts”?- ie GusBus, Woodyard-Definitely

Hudson Ward committed to Western Michigan today.

Western Michigan…..12-20, 6th in MAC last season.

Hudson Ward also skates? Tough to pull off both Winter sports at same time logistically, but if he can do it he’d likely be the new best dual-sport Ward.

It's been a bit, so I figured I'd just to an update bump on this...

As always, important to note that this list is mostly for entertainment purposes. We may not be in hard on all/any of these remaining guys. And we may be in more seriously with someone(s) who is not on the list, because they're not putting their whole re-recruitment out there publicly. From an outsider's perspective, not getting a real read on what might be coming next for the Cats, in that I don't see any obvious clues out there that stand out above the noise. Now that I've said that of course that means someone will come flying in out of nowhere in the next 36 hours. :)

Doesn't appear to be a step up in environment, basketball or academics...
Maybe he wanted to play in an arena that's over 3 times the size of Patrick in a metro area that's 3 times the size of the greater-Burlington area? We'll probably never know, but access to Poutine was clearly not on his wish list.

Wright’s NET last year was similar to ours. The league overall is better. The top 4-5 teams are typically pretty good, and the semis and final of that tournament are usually a good watch in early March. Who knows with all of the turnover this year. But hope he does well there.

It’s a bummer as at this point I’m unsure we’re going to land another player that would be better than Alamutu just returning, but he wanted a change of scenery and likely got more $ than UVM was willing or able to give him.

Will be interested to see how much SG and PG he’s able to play at Wright State, and if there’s improvements in 3pt FG% and TOs.
