at the age of 29, Drexler is better than Kobe at everything except scoring.

Kobe:

32.8 pts
5.7 rebs
5.4 assts
1.4 stls

Drexler:

25.0 pts
6.7 rebs
6.6 assts
1.8 stls

Drexler hands down...ultimate team player...his teammates actually ENJOYED playing with him. Kobe is single handly ruining the lakers. Kobe is a lot like AI...superb scorer, but not much else. Neither makes their team better, and niether has led their teams anywhere.

Um...AI led his team to the finals even though he didn't have much of a supporting cast, but nice try..

The Glide is one of my top 5 favorite players ever, but I gotta give this to Kobe easily. Outside of MJ, no one that I've seen in my life time (31 years) has consistently shown the ability to completely take over a game and put a team on his back.

I can't stand Kobe, but I admire his talents.

Not much else you say? OK....whatever dude.

Kobe wins this easily. If youre purely going on stats, Kobe easily....just because Drexler leads in 3 of the 4 catergories you have listed, they are by fairly small margins compared to the ppg margin. I'd love to see these 2 players take each other on one on one both in their primes though - would be a great matchup

Huge Drexler fan here. There are some things Drexler was better at. Better rebounder, passer, and locker room guy no doubt. But he doesn't have that killer instinct Kobe has, nor was he nearly as good of a scorer. Skill wise I think Kobe is clearly better, but everyone saying this is an insult to Kobe needs to show Clyde a little more respect.

Drexler is three times better in defense than Kobe.

Actually, Kobe played 4.6 more mpg this season than Drexler did in '92. Here are their respective per 40 numbers:

Drexler:

27.7 pts
7.3 reb
7.4 ast
2.0 stl
1.0 blk
47% FG/56% TS

Kobe:

31.0 pts
5.6 reb
5.3 ast
1.4 stl
.4 blk
46.3% FG/58% TS

However, it's also important to note that Drexler did that on 7.3 FTA per 40, while every star perimeter player gets 9+ FTA per 40 nowadays. So add 2 FTA and Drexler adds another 1.6 ppg to his per 40 average, bringing him to 29.3 ppg. So you have:

29.3 pts
7.3 reb
7.4 ast
2.0 stl
1.0 blk
47% FG

vs.

31.0 pts
5.6 reb
5.3 ast
1.4 stl
.5 blk
46.3% FG

Kobe's defense, better scoring ability and clutchness put him over the top, but let's not be silly and act like it's not even close statistically.

Is this thread some kind of joke?

You are comparing a top 5 all-time player versus someone who might be top 25.
I don't see a word about a top ten player in this thread. It would be extremely generous to call Kobe top twenty for that matter.Right now he's closer to David Thompson than he is to MJ.

Kobe is around top 25.

there are many big guys like Duncan in the history.

Kobe appears to be a better scorer for their respective careers. However, he does this on a much higher Usage rate, so it's hard to say how that affects their scoring numbers. Additional, despite having the ball far more often, Kobe isn't able to get even close to as many assists. He's also a poorer rebounder and stealer. It appears to me that Drexler had a slightly better career than Bryant.

Kobe scores a lot more while being slightly more efficient then Drexler on top that. Drexler is a slightly better rebounder and a much better passer by the numbers (Drexler's assist ratios are basically doubling up Kobe's).

I was going into this thinking that Kobe would have a big edge as his PER was a lot better in his last two years then Drexlers ever was but a closer look at the numbers IMO seems to show Drexler is behind but not by a whole bunch

drexler was unreliable as a crunch time scorer. porter was more reliable for those blazer teams. if you want a complete picture of drexler, beyond his stats, part of his story is that he was viewed as a bit of a choker in his day. part of it warranted (part a function of his offensive skillset).
