Coach Dow’s base salary was $150k last year, and I imagine he got a significant raise this year after winning the national championship (on top of whatever bonuses and vehicle allowances/other benefits).

The assistant coaches though are in the $40-60’s.

the coaching salaries I imagine can be used as a proxy for overall funding relative to other sports.

other head coach base salaries:
Becker - $387k
Kresge (w bball) - $210k
Feifs (m lax) - $210k
Wiedler (m hockey) - $250k
Plumer (w hockey) - $122k

It's crazy to think about how little money our soccer program gets, and still won a national championship. That's an amazing value!
It's even crazier to know that Virtue Field was built, and multiple athletic department higher-ups at the time thought it was the one missing ingredient that would catapult men's lacrosse into the national conversation instead of soccer, too.

Modern D1 athletic success for schools like Vermont is identifying sports where it can compete on a national level, in places where traditional football/basketball power conference teams mostly don't exist. We already know what happens when attention and resources (a lot of external) are put into one sport, and isn't a big budget internally or externally compared to some others. We are also seeing trends that can inform decisions in other sports where these powers do participate in the same general playing pool. It's going to be interesting to see how and where the institutional alignment goes in this new era.

I've been to a couple of games now. It is a pretty compelling experience. Tickets are like $5.50 for general admission. I can't even fathom that. I've been told that it's the same price they charged last year. It feels like a massive oversight to not have raised the price. They are selling out every game, easily. Perhaps its such a small revenue item (given the small capacity of Virtue Field) that they don't even care. I hope that there are plans to build out seating on the opposite side of the field as the current seating. It appears that support buildings (team rooms?) are already well under way.

That's insane. GA should be at least $15-$20. Lost revenue.

The beer sales at select games, and the vendor fees for the food trucks might make up for that. I don't know, but I actually think keeping the ticket affordable is the best course of action, especially since they're drawing a lot of young families. They need younger (read under 50 years old) fans wherever they can take them. Those people if they're drawn in enough, it's up to the department, foundation, Victory Club, etc. to then lure those who have more money they'd like to spend in to upgrade your donor base. I'm skeptical that expansion of the capacity is high on the priority list...having outsized demand for tickets is a good thing. If anything, I could see them deciding their next project is to build out a nicer press area and production center instead of the trailer by the touchlines and team benches. Right now, media (print/TV) go to the bleacher box area, which doubles as a high roller space...I could see them wanting to use all that real estate for a club room to watch the game, and move the media people across the way where the broadcast is done.

That's not even the biggest "missed opportunity" from a team that plays on the pitch. Vermont Green didn't charge their season ticket holders for any of the 5 playoff games, and only got money from a limited general sale. A lot of that was based on them not thinking they'd have 5 opportunities to host, but hopefully a lesson learned there is you build that into the package and refund or allow people to roll over that fee to their ticket cost/deposit next season, or just have it be a "donation" to the club's environmental efforts.

I think I paid $7 or something for a women's game, maybe $8 for the men. It might've been more. I think I paid $15 or something on SeatGeek for a ticket for a men's game. $8-$10 is fine. Get people in the door. Keep it accessible. People buy a lot of stuff, yes, including beer, once they're inside.

It would be cool if they constructed an elevated area for a SRO section. If they could put seats on the field like they did for Vermont FC, that would add some capacity.

Re: UVM men's soccer ticket prices, I'm not saying don't raise prices a little at some point in the near future, but I think specifically not raising ticket prices after an unprecedented national championship run actually scores you more Good Guy Points in the long run. It feels a little shallow when teams immediately jack up prices in the aftermath of success. In fact, it's something they probably could have leaned into a little bit. "We might be the champs, but we haven't changed."

Is $10-$12 tix for a family of four not….still incredibly affordable(?).

Does anyone know anything yet about these injuries? To my eye, Rui's didn't look that serious...maybe a cramp as he was trying to stretch it on the field. Ismail had a little bit of a limp during the post-game festivities. Kissel's looked like it was the most serious.

Latest national poll

UVM #4
Bryant #5 , AE soccer on fire
Going to try to go to that game.

Has AE ever had two teams playing against each other that highly ranked in any sport, ever?

I can’t imagine the AE didn’t have two ranked programs in lax, at least in the 2010’s when UAlbany had their dynasty with the Thompson brothers. And I’m pretty sure UVM and UNH have been ranked in men’s soccer more recently at the same time. Two top-5 programs must be a first though.

But in terms of playing each other it’s all speculation until the 25th. One loss and either side will drop precipitously in these rankings. They are unforgiving when it comes to a single loss.

But, if they do both go undefeated between then and now, it won't be #5 against #4 either.
