As of this afternoon (3/26), UMBC officially has more open roster spots than players on roster.

The two discussing the future of college sports for small schools.

 

So far the transfers have been as expected - Banks out because he can earn some solid NIL cash in this 'bonus year,' and Resse/Stone/Chibambe headed out because they need to play down a level (or two) to get minutes.

Valentine, Jordan, Ciunys and Eze are the four I am most intrigued about. These are four guys who should realistically come back and would see minutes (even if not starting).

I do think Ferry & co. will load up on experience and look to replicate 2022-23 as much as possible.

 

First true offer. Chandler also took an official visit this week.

 

First commit is indeed Morton, who averaged 14 PPG in D2 with 36/32/89 splits.



Splits are somewhat concerning, but has good size and played in very competitve HS programs.





Morton also visited in the summer of 2023.

 

UMBC has landed 6'3 wing DJ Armstrong, a graduate student from D2 University of Texas Permian Basin. Armstrong was teammates with Marcus Banks at Odessa College.

In 2024-25, Armstrong averaged 12.3 PPG on 44/37/92 shooting.

 

You know, I wonder if Ferry is aware we play in Division I. Building a heck of a D2 program though.

 

UCSD and Drake were both built using multiple D2 guys in key roles.

 

I wasn’t aware and that’s good to know.

 

Dion Brown committed to Saint Louis last night in case you guys were wondering...A10 might be more suited to his level. Will be interesting to see how he fits there, since SLU runs a pretty specific type of offense, though it's one that does seem a bit more tailored to Brown's game.

 

Dion hasn't announced it yet, but did see that yesterday morning. A bit of an odd fit being so far away from home, but surmise he'll do well.

 

Played at the Mount for four years, before transferring to UIC where he averaged 3.4 PPG.

 

Louie Jordan is in the transfer portal, making it five exits to the portal thus far.

A lights out shooter, but really struggled on the boards and defensively.

 

I was always curious about Bryce Johnson's eligibility, he has apparently entered the portal.

 

...how?

 

Also curious to see where Marcus Banks Jr will go. Wild he hit the 1,000 UMBC pts in 2 years for us.

How does Johnson have eligibility?, or how would he play at Kentucky?

 

6'10/235 forward José Roberto Tanchyn from Palm Beach Atlantic (D2).

Averaged 9.4 PPG and 6.7 RPG in 22 minutes per night. Scored in double figures 9 of his last 12, including a 25 point outing against St. Leo.

I like this get from an initial glance.

 

For a 6' 10" guy, he moves pretty well. After not having a big men down the middle last year, this feels like a nice breath of fresh air.

So far, so good in terms of the recruits coming in. More work to be done though.

Possible transfer visiting soon - averaged 13.1 PPG and 4.0 RPG in JUCO. A 43% 3 point shooter on 5.2 attempts per night.

Had committed to D1 UTRGV, but UMBC is much closer to his JUCO home in PA. I'd be surprised if he doesn't commit. Great size and pops nicely in film.

 

6’10 center Triton (JUCO). 8.6 PPG, 7.4 RPG and 2.3 BPG.

74% from the field.

 

I liked Caeser before he landed at ODU. MD kid.
