Now schedule out....time for new thread

I think the key to the season will be how well Creal plays at the 4-I'm assuming she starts there. If she's not effective, Lenz will probably end up playing as an undersized 4. Overall much stronger if she can play the 3 most of the time. Priede was great last year, but this year the defenses will be geared to her inside, not Olsen - hope she can grow into the role of #1 option. No worries about the backcourt.

I'm expecting that you're getting Gilwee, Hanson, Weltz, Lenz and Priede at least to start the season. I would also lean towards Hanson/Priede combo where it depends on how the other team is playing who is going to be the main option. I'm also curious which first year players step into a regular role. I liked what I saw from Hosier.

Your point about Anna's interior defense cannot be overstated enough. An under-the-radar concern for this season is Nikola staying out of foul trouble when defending 5s. Last year she defended 4s a majority of the time, leaving the 5s to Anna (for the most part). Even when they switched matchups big-to-big, she always had the help of a HOF defender like Anna right by her side in the paint. Obviously Nikola has the size and skill to defend 5s, but can she do it for ~35mpg without foul trouble, like Anna did regularly?

Some notes on Barre scrimmage. I thought they looked good. Priede was a head above everyone else, literally and figuratively. But I thought Jadyn Weltz stole the show. She put on a play making clinic in the 1st half and did a little bit of everything in the second. Gilwee was solid but not remarkable as was Malia Lenz. Kiera Hanson missed a majority of her shots, but was a nightmare to guard. Risdon did fine. Devon Yarde had some nice drives to the basket. Savanna Creal made a valient effort at guarding Priede but had her hands full. She and Lenz are going to have their hands full all year at the 4 spot. Emma Haan hit a few 3's. Annemarie Batista hit three 3's but was not much of a presence underneath. Of the freshmen, Jacklynn Hosier stood out. She had a dozen points on a combination of drives, pull up jumpers, and a three. She handled the ball and passed well (aside from a couple unforced errors). She played with poise and looked ready to contribute NOW. Lia Hanson made a couple of threes. Maren Maxon did not fill the stats, but didn't make any mistakes either. I think another player to watch, maybe not this season, but certainly in the future, is Christiana Gordon. She had some nice plays and hit two 3's within a 30 second time period. She plays with fire and determination! Which will serve her well moving forward.
I don't believe Madison Hall played.
There were a few defensive breakdowns, but that doesn't bother me. With Kresge at the helm, that will get sorted out. A lot of missed shots early on, but a lot of made shots in the second half. Overall, I liked what I saw.

SCSred, your report is almost identical to my own observations of the scrimmage! I'll just add a few details and thoughts. My biggest take away was Weltz did not look like a transfer player trying to fit in on a new team. Obviously, she has already proven herself in the AE, but there is always the question of fit and adjusting to new systems, culture, and teammates. She looked really good playing both the 1 and the 2 spots. Weltz and Priede had several nice pick and roll plays together. Hosier had a couple rookie mistakes, but overall she did not look like a rookie out there - very promising. Other freshmen showed flashes of long-term potential, and none of them looked like recruiting misses. Compared to last year, Haan definitely looked a step quicker on both the offensive and defensive ends, and she had more stamina, too. It's very early, and she is still just a true sophomore with plenty of room and time for more development, but I thought Creal looked like a "serviceable" sophomore sub for Lenz and Priede. Had some nice post defense possessions and a few nice post moves and finishes on the offensive end, but was smart and did not try to do too much. She got worked 1v1 by Priede a few times, but I suspect that will happen to plenty of veteran post defenders in the AE this year, so no shame for Creal. Hall was on the bench, but not dressed. Lastly, the Hanson sisters had a few minutes on the court together and that was really neat to see. Hoping there are a few times this year when we get to see that in real games, too.
