Virginia hires VCU's Odom as new hoops coach

Virginia has hired VCU's Ryan Odom as it's new head coach.

As expected. Welp, I guess I'll be watching some ACC games!

With little news coming out of UVA on its search, it was looking like it was going to be Odom. They just had to wait until VCU's season was done. The Rams got knocked out on Thursday and Ryan was named Virginia's head coach less than two days later. Would think this has been in the works behind the scenes for weeks. It will be a homecoming for Odom as he grew up in Charlottesville and was a ball boy there as his dad was an assistant coach for some seven years under Terry Holland.

Will be their 4th coach in 4 years (with each coach jumping to a bigger gig).

It's not a bad problem to have... but like... some continuity would be nice too

Not a great look for the state of affairs at X. X has more history and doesn't take a backseat to football but that doesn't matter anymore in the NIL era.

My assumption is Miller (correctly) guessed he'd have an easier time paying transfers and recruits with Texas football money.

In a world of CBB "haves" and "have-nots," X may quite quickly follow the Hall in the "have not" territory. There's going to be a rebuild there now.

I know that these head coaches have agents working on their behalf to negotiate their deals. I know that college athletics is one big money grab. But man, still weird to see these hirings announced like the evening or day after a team is bounced out of the NCAA Tournament. Maybe give it a week?

These guys are reviewing nothing that would take more than 10 min of their days; their lawyers/agents are and they are getting the term sheet details, which is likely less than a page. I hear what you are saying though, and it does indeed suck. They should be focusing on where they are and not where they are going.
