1) M. Johnson
2) O. Robertson
3) I. Thomas
4) J. Stockton
5) B. Cousy
6) W. Frazier
7) J. Kidd
8) T. Archibald
9) S. Nash
10) G. Payton

Teams:
Dallas Mavericks (1994-97), Phoenix Suns (1997-2001), New Jersey Nets (2001-present)
Titles: 0
Honors: 7-time All-Star, 1995 Co-ROY

The player: A brilliant passer -- his 9.2 assists per game average trail only Magic, Stockton and Oscar.

He's a terrific leader and intelligent competitor. Can beat an opponent in so many ways without scoring a point. J-Kidd is able to do precisely the right thing at the right time at the right place.

Good list.

Only switch I would make is Payton and Nash though.

And Stockton ahead of Zeke.

Having Nash on this list makes the whole thing invalid.

He is nowhere near the top 10.

Nash I don't think should be ahead of Payton. Nash is a better shooter & distributor but Payton was an elite point guard on both sides of the ball. Nash is just great on offense.

What more can you expect from those self-proclaimed ESPN "experts"?

I like Stockton alot but Zeke deserves the nod over him. Malone and Stockton never got to that next level of winning a championship, that steps guys up a notch. Zeke lead those Piston title teams and was downright unstoppable whenever they needed him to be, he was the best player on the Piston's squads by far. In no way does it take away from Stockton's spectacularly solid career coming in behind him. Nash may have crept onto that list thanks to the back to back MVP's but 2 great seasons do not a top ten of all time make. If he can keep up this level of play until he retires it could be another story but not right now. How is Jerry West not on there? Ya can't leave the logo off that list.

not that it matters in a team sport but Nash would kill kidd on a one on one game!!!
Well, he probably wouldn't. Considering Kidd is much stronger and actually would play defense, Jason would probably win.

But, you're right. It doesn't matter, so why say it? Is Stephon Marbury a top 5 PG of all-time?

I just asked him, and it turns out that he is.

Do they want top 10 players who played point guard, or top 10 at playing the point guard position? Because if you are talking who is the purest prototype of a PG, than John Stockton would be 1st.

But I'm pretty sure they mean who are the best players to play point guard, and even then the list isn't that good. I would put Stockton over Isaih and Nash doesn't belong on the list.

Guys, watch film of B. Cousy. It's laughable how highly this guy is rated. He dribbles around for a long time with low ball handling skills until he finally chucks up a shot (and his fg% was quitebad). He is also extremely slow and unathletic. If he were to play in today's league, there might not be teams that would take him as a starter.

I noticed two things

Scottie Pippen got 3 points....???

and

Jerry West got 7 points.. (I know the guy averaged like 7 assists in his career) but he is definitely NOT a point guard.

Nash does not belong to top-10...and btw, PAYTON >>>>>>>>>> NASH...

That's what makes this list so wonky. Is that they give Cousy the nod because of the nostalgia and how he redefined the position back in the short short days, the guys has plenty of championships too don't forget so his inclusion is a no brainer, but then how can ya leave off Jerry West? Guys like GP and Nash who while great players are mere footnotes comparitively. While I think Gary is more deserving of the top 10 becuase of how long he played at such a high level but they're both more of a top 15 pick from their personal accolades while taking away because neither won a championship. Neither Kidd nor Stockton have won one either but both have had quite an effect on the NBA record book and have seen multiple finals appearances as well as been the reasons for their teams sucess consistently throughout the years so I can see the argument for them if that's what they went on.

These picks just seem like someone in their mid 20's complied a list based off of who they grew up watching and just sprinkled in a couple older guys to make the list look more legit. If you're gonna go nostalgic choosing Bob then we really need to know the criteria as to why they left off guys like The Pistol or even Iverson. Is this a list of prototypical PG's or is it the best players at that position? Is it based off of who could beat who one on one? It's all messed up. Somebody at the ESPN offices need to give these guys a dealine break becuase some of the lists they compile, like this one just end up feeling kinda rushed.

Not in the John Stockton/Kidd mold no but he was a PG. Again it goes back to what was their reaosning behind this list and it's clear there wasnt one no matter what they say.

Jerry West was really a shooting guard playing @ the 1 b/c they had to put him there if Gail Goodrich & Elgin Baylor are on the same team.
