Re: Patrick Beverly & Robert Dozier& a Future 2nd round pick

Dozier was a pretty solid contributer to Memphis. I wouldn't say he's a complete wash-out, I think he has a decent shot at making the squad. He may be bitter towards Mario though...

Heat President Pat Riley said the team had Beverley rated at No. 20 on its draft board. He said he expected Beverley to compete for a spot on next season's roster. He said Dozier could wind up being placed in Europe next season.

Riley said he attempted to make more out of the draft.

"We were very active throughout the late teens, up until the late 20s, and then again very active in the early 30s," Riley said. "But, really, the price of doing business when you're not in that position, for us, as far as giving up future picks and some of the financial things that were requested, just weren't available."
Beverley was selected at No. 42 by the Lakers, with the Heat trading a 2011 second-round pick for his rights. Academic trouble after two seasons at Arkansas led the athletic 6-foot-1 Chicago native to play overseas last season.

A solid outside shooter, he had strong workouts with the Heat.

"He's a combo guard. He's very similar somewhat to Mario," Riley said. "This guy's a bulldog that can defend, that can shoot, that can score, that can block shots, that can disrupt."

Of Dozier, Riley said, "He's very athletic. He's long, athletic, playing in a system in which he very rarely was ever featured. He was highly recommended by John (Calipari, the former Memphis coach).

"He was a guy that was pretty much a facilitator all the time. But we will develop him as a 6-8, long, three. He mostly played inside as a four, but I think what we'd like to do is try to develop him as a three."

Somewhere, Smithian is having a wet dream.

Beverley sounds like a gun. If he can come in, disrupt and play tough defense - he'd be what we hoped Marcus Banks would be. Hopefully he runs the point better than Banks though...

Dozier probably wont make the team, but he was a solid pick for the spot.

Still wish we traded up to get Young or Blair though.

Dozier sucks. He won't make the team. I guess we will retain his rights or whatever when he heads to Europe. However he has little future upside.
