IIRC they hired Mase, due to the fact that the old A guy was so drab and they were hoping a more energetic PA guy would get the crowd more excited....Well they still sit on their hands.

they had let the old guy go, and he went onto become the beavers PA guy. I don't remember his name, but he battled cancer, and is doing much better now.

I agree with PBF, though. Mason has to go. Some of his staples "Jo-ELL Prz-BYL-Luh" and how he says sort of matter-of-factly "from Biggie" after a Damon assist are absolutely horrendous. And I swear I vomit a little bile every time I hear the guy say, "Alright everyone it's time for the Foooooooooooooord Blimp Fly. Commander Holcolm's overhead looking for the loudest fans to receive a $2 coupon to Pizza Hut. So come one fans, make a little noise."

Blech.

But I guess every PA announcer has his little annoying things. The guy in Detroit is on crack.

I think Mark is a great announcer. He's also a really nice guy. I don't think any of the other announcers or broadcasters managed to break away to come say hello to us at the most recent Blazer Bash. Mark did, although I am maybe the only one who said much to him while he was up there. You might not be aware that he hosts an internet cat forum and we were talking cats.

I haven't heard a radio Blazer broadcast for several years, but I always liked the way he introduced Sabonis in Lithuanian. How many other NBA announcers take the time to learn a few lines in a relatively obscure language to personalize the intro of their team's international player(s)??? Maybe some others do, but I am not aware of any.

BTW.......I recently mentioned to Mark about Zygimantas Sabonis playing in that junior tourney in Spain. I told him he might be needing that Lith intro in a few years and not to get too rusty on it. JEGA!!

iirc, he lost all his teeth due to the after affects of his chemo-therapy. But he got new choppers. I think he had to re-learn how to speak too.

 

Mark is a classy guy and a darn good PA announcer.....

I thought he was OK the few times I've been in Portland.
PBF, try the Warriors PA guy. EVERY TIME anyone on the Warriors is shooting free throws, the idiot says "Soandso at the line, ssssssssssssssssshooting teu!" That's the closest I can come in writing to his giving a long hiss for shooting and then two in a very ooo-ey fashion.
I've heard that at every game I've been to in Oakland, every pair of Warrior free throws, since moving to California in 1990. Talk about getting old!!!!!
