yao ming has been in the nba for a few years. Hes 7-6 and hes putting up solid numbers. but one thing i wonder is if yao ming would even have a chance in the nba if it was not for his height because to tell the truth im asian myself and im happy that yao is a star but i really dont see much skill in this guy.

Yeah, i feel that way as well. I always think if i was lucky enough to be that tall, i would be much better(getting more rebounds expecially). Good luck to him though

a lot of guys are in the NBA because of their size. only a few i can name that have no size and have a lot of skill to be consistent in the NBA. AI, Boykins, Nash, etc etc. basically you either need size or talent or as reccomended, both to survive and prosper in the NBA. and if Yao was 7'2" or 7'0", i believe his athleticism would be a lot better than his tall 7'5" frame.

You don't see much skill in the guy? You obviously don't know basketball. As a pure pivot player, only two players are better, Shaq and Duncan. He has a great dropstep, and a great up and under move, he can shoot the fadeaway, jumphook and finishes well around the basket, hes a good passer as well with good court vision. Yao's talent is very obvious, no one ever questioned how good he could be. Yao has the skill but he didn't have the fire or aggressiveness, but hes picked it up lately and has been dominating not just because hes tall, but because hes good.

Yao is very athlethic for a guy whose 7'6, he also is a more complete player than others think, he can shoot better, pass better and handle the ball better than a regular center...

but, BUT, I think he's a little overhyped, I mean the only reason he had much publicity the moment he came to the leauge is because of four things:

- He was a 7'6 (abnormally tall)
- He was no.1 pick by the houston rockets
- Asians were a little sparce in the NBA

that three reasons is what made him attractive to the media, and what also set his popularity apart from guys like gerald wallace, Boris Diaw who was like him (not that good in the beggining of their carreers, but later became stars.)

eh, not necessarily asians... he's chinese so there's a huge market (1.4 billion strong  )

i thought yahoo was overhyped. i think he's got the skills to be a good player, but i do think he has a lack of fire. im not saying he doesn't want to play well, or win, or anything like that.. but he just doesn't have that special god-given (eh, might get flamed for mentioning god) fire that all the greats had. i could be wrong though.

If u actually watched him play, you would know that he iss TREMENDOUSLY skilled.....The only conclusion that I can come to is that, you dont know what your talking about, and you judge a players skill level based on how flashy he is.....

Are you one of those idiots that thinks steve francis is the best pg in the league....

Lack of skill? How many 7'2+ do you see shooting almost 90% from the FT line and has one of the most consistant jumpers in the leauge? For a man his size, he has hell of a long range, can shoot ft's all at a very high %. He rebounds, blocks and scores all based on his skill...Not his hight..

Your point is? I never said they would. Yes, they are two of my favorite players, but that doesn't mean I think they will win a championship. I think if either went to a team with some talent, they would have a chance.
Good, then we are in agreement about AI and KG. However, I disagree with Yao being injury-plagued. Furthermore, I assert that Yao WILL win a championship. (or at least have a better chance than the two forementioned players)

Look at Pavel, Ha Seung-Jin, and Ramos. THOSE are guys who are only in the NBA because of their height, Yao Ming is Magic Johnson compared to them.
Well actually they were said to have potential thats why they got in the NBA

And for all Yao hater ( I happen to hate him too) but this guy does everything on offense and defense
